I don’t really know where to begin or what exactly to say about my good friend Steven Drabik passing away so unexpectedly 7 months ago now. I didn’t post anything then because I honestly couldn’t put any of the feelings down with words and I’m still having a hard time now. I wanted to post this for over a week now, and I kept pushing it off daily and not for lack of time or anything like that. I just still can’t believe he’s gone, way way too soon. A lot of people I’m friends with on here knew Big Steve, anything myself or my family did for the past decade + he’s been a part of. It didn’t matter if he had work, or school, or anything else, he always made an appearance. Steve always, always showed up!! You always knew you could count on him, and he didn’t care what it was for or what you were doing, he was always down. Birthdays, Holidays, any occasion, any reason to hang out. If you needed help with anything, he was right there. I’m sitting here and thinking and I don’t think there was ever a time he said no to any help that I asked him for, basketball, lifting workouts, helping a few of my bball kids with homeschooling classes, it was always a yes from my man Big Steve. We spent countless hours in the gym together lifting at the Y talking about every topic imaginable, I will always be sad we won’t have any of them again, but appreciate the countless ones we did have. He was super close with my entire family, my wife and even all the kids I coach and train, and one of the toughest things was knowing he would never get to meet my daughter Tenley. I know he’s somewhere watching over all of us, but it doesn’t take any of the hurt away.
I could keep writing and writing and writing, but simply put he’s a friend you hope your kids will find some day. Always there, always showing up!
With that, myself, Karissa and my entire family wanted to do something to keep his name in people’s hearts and minds year in and year out. I have talked with his sister Christine and with his family’s blessing we are going to start the RABC X Workharder Steven Drabik Memorial Scholarship Fund. We will award this to one of our Seniors each Spring in Steve’s name!
This year, we have designed shorts in Steve’s favorite team’s colorways, the San Antonio Spurs, with his college number on the shorts as well. They will be selling for $40 each, we will have sizes from Youth Medium all the way up to XXL. All proceeds from the shorts will go directly into the Scholarship fund! Our goal is to sell as many as possible, as seeing them out and about will also hopefully bring a smile to people’s faces as we will always miss him!!
