Oh what fun it is to ride… in our new facility van! 🚐✨

We took another trip to see the lights, and the reviews were in — lots of “oooohs,” “ahhhhs,” and a few residents saying they definitely don’t want that electric bill! 😂💡

🎄 Home for the Holidays 🎄

This season, we’re celebrating the incredible progress of Ruth, who came to The Waters of Sweetwater after an infection and severe knee pain led to a hospital stay. When she arrived, she was very unsteady on her feet, needed moderate to maximum assistance for transfers, and required help with nearly all of her self-care.

But from the very beginning, Ruth had one phrase she said every single day: “What are we going to do next?” Her determination set the tone for her entire stay.

As therapy continued, it became clear that walking would no longer be a safe option for her. Instead of giving up, Ruth embraced a new goal — adapting to life at wheelchair level. She quickly mastered wheelchair mobility, using her legs to “walk” herself all around the building. Soon, she became a regular in our group activities and dining room, navigating with confidence and independence.

Transfers were more challenging, but Ruth tackled them with the same determination she brought to everything else. With hard work and consistency, she became safer and more independent day by day. When her assisted living facility visited to check on her progress, they were thrilled by how much she could do on her own.

Today, we are excited to share that Ruth is returning to her assisted living community — stronger, more confident, and ready for this next chapter and the holidays! ❤️🏡

🎄 Home for the Holidays 🎄

This season, we’re honored to share the inspiring journey of Marian, who came to The Waters of Sweetwater after a leg fracture left her in an immobilizing brace and in a great deal of pain. When she arrived, even rolling over in bed was excruciating.

At 92, Marian has faced more than her share of challenges. At just 26, after breaking her back in a car wreck, she was told she would never walk again. Her response? “Maybe I won’t. But I think I will.” And she did. That determination and courage have carried her through many fractures over the years as she battled osteoporosis — and she’s remained positive through it all.

Though she has not been able to stand or walk for several years, Marian continued to care for herself from her wheelchair. This most recent fracture is not healing, and she may be in the brace permanently. But Marian never stopped working. Through Occupational Therapy, she mastered new ways to manage clothing and toileting, and with Physical Therapy, she strengthened her other leg to support mobility.

Today, she is able to do most of her own self-care again, can transfer independently, and we are thrilled to share that Marian is going home — just in time for the holidays. ❤️🎁🏡

Marian has been a true inspiration to all of us, and we feel privileged to have been part of her journey.

Yesterday was a truly special day at The Waters of Sweetwater as we proudly celebrated one of our own. Michele Nannis, LPN, was presented with the Gentiva Hospice Heart Award — a recognition reserved for individuals who go above and beyond in serving patients and families with compassion, grace, and unwavering dedication. ❤️

The Gentiva Heart Award was created by a Gentiva Hospice Care Consultant to honor exceptional caregivers within partnering facilities and community agencies. Recipients are nominated by Gentiva’s internal clinical team and represent what it truly means to have a Gentiva Heart:
🫶 Someone who exceeds expectations to meet the needs of others
🫶 Someone who leads with kindness, empathy, and dignity
🫶 Someone who walks beside patients and families through their end-of-life journey with intentional, compassionate care

Michele embodies all of this and more.
For the past three years, she has been an invaluable part of The Waters of Sweetwater — a devoted nurse, a strong advocate for our residents, and a caring presence for families. This award could not be more well-deserved, and we are so proud to have Michele as part of our team. 💙

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their continued partnership and for recognizing the extraordinary work happening within our facility.

Please join us in congratulating Michele on this incredible honor! 👏

Please join us in congratulating our of The Week, Ester!

Ester came to The Waters of Sweetwater after an exacerbation of respiratory failure and a UTI caused confusion, weakness, and unsteadiness. She is used to being independent and she worked hard to get stronger and safer. Adjusting to using supplemental oxygen was a challenge, but she learned to manage the tubing without tripping over it, and to monitor her blood oxygen levels to make sure she wears it when she needs it. OT taught her breathing techniques to increase the levels also, and PT worked on increasing her stamina. We’ve been impressed with her determination and strength, and we are confident that she will be successful in her return to living independently. We wish her all the best! 💙
