Back to school with COVID: Here are some recommendations I have with consideration of CDC guidelines:
1. Encourage your child to wear a mask while at school
2. Provide hand sanitizer for use before, between and after classes
3. Bleach wipes to wipe down your child's desk prior to sitting in it
4. Assigned seating if possible (may need to suggest this to teacher)
5. COVID testing for anyone with fever and symptoms--available at the office. May need to stay home until test comes back negative. This is usually within 24-48 hours with our current test. If the test is positive, student will need to contact school nurse and follow specific guidelines regarding on-line classes and return to school. Would recommend retesting in 2-3 weeks after initial test.
6. When your child comes home, allow them to leave all belongings, including clothing worn on that day, in a spot close to the outside of your home, or in a utility area. Keep a separate bin for their clothes, and keep their backpack away from the inside of the house. Keep shoes outside. Wash their clothes when you get a load in hot water, separate from everyone else's. Take homework and backpack materials out and keep them separate from the backpack until completed and placed back in. Use hand sanitizer before and after handling their stuff. Sounds excessive, but it's the older folks in the house that are at higher risk for severe infection from COVID, not your child!
7. If possible, get a FLU vaccine this year. It would be awful to catch both viruses at the same time, and not be vaccinated for either!!
