TECHNICALLY:
Drug courts are judicially supervised court dockets. Drug courts provide a sentencing alternative of treatment for people living with dangerous substance use and abuse sometimes coupled with mental health issues. Drug courts facilitate a remedy focused court system where the view of public health is the process using a especially designed model where the judiciary, prosecution, defe
nse bar, probation, law enforcement, mental health, social service, and treatment communities join as a team together to help substance abuse offenders into a recovery that is long term. PRACTICALLY:
Drug court help the offenders change his or her life. Drug court helps to provide consistent responses to drug offenses among the judiciary. Drug courts can foster coordinated ways to deal with the offenses of offenders between different agencies to give a more cost effect manner to help substance abuse offenders through an intense rounded approach for treatment. Success of the treatment for the offender could result in dismissal of the drug charges or shortened or suspended sentences in order that the offender can have success so they can build a new life without substance abuse. What is Our Part as a Community? WE are community. We are not separate. We all need each other, this means the courts need us, the health professionals need us, the participants in drug court need us. Sweetwater and Nolan County is a supportive community. *There are many ways you can help. You can come to drug court at 4:00 PM each Monday in the Nolan County District Courtroom to be a part of drug court to support the whole drug court team and participants.
*You can donate restaurant or grocery store gift cards for $10 to give a participant who progresses to the next level.
*You can give a cash donation to the Rolling Plains Drug Court Foundation to help support the Nolan County Drug Court needs for occasional assistance in getting a participant help when they are in a crisis situation.
