Researchers at Tarleton State University in Texas have discovered that certain plant-based extracts, including okra, fenugreek, tamarind, and cactus, can zap up to 90 percent of microplastics from water.

These natural substances contain mucilage, think plant goo, that works like a magnet, clumping microplastics together so they can be removed. Unlike synthetic chemicals currently used in water treatment, these are completely non-toxic and eco-friendly.

Even better, they work wonders in both ocean and freshwater. Lead scientist Dr. Rajani Srinivasan believes this method could revolutionize wastewater treatment, especially in communities that can't afford high-tech systems. Science just served us a sustainable cleanup with a side of veggies.
