Just a little taste of late autumn around here πŸπŸ‚

Truthfully I'm a creature of summer. Give me all the busy days filled with gardening, ball games, swimming, and sun 🌞 but even I have to admit there is something magical about this time of year. A gentle reminder that we too need a period of rest and reflection in order to emerge renewed and replenished in the spring. So while I wallow inside wishing for warmer temps my goal is to find small ways to enjoy these moments for they too never last quite long enough ❀️

Finally that time of year again ❀️🌻

Fall equinox is here and today truly has felt like a little celebration πŸŽ‰πŸπŸƒ The breeze is carrying cooler air and everyone feels a little lighter.

Take some time today to make your own little party to honor the closing of summer and beginning of fall ❀️ Take a walk or bike ride and notice little peaks of fall color, hop on the yoga mat and make those 108 moments, or simply just pause for a few moments of silence to observe the changes around you.

It's the season of fall in the morning, summer in the afternoon, and fall again by sundown πŸ˜† πŸπŸ‚πŸƒ I've noticed our goats and alpacas are starting to put on a little more weight and their winter coat is coming in 😬 The zinnias haven't got the hint though and are still blooming like crazy! They must believe we have quite a bit longer before frost 🌬️

When the dahlias start blooming we are reminded it's all worth it... The binder full of seeds, the tent and grow lights taking up space, dirt .... SO MUCH DIRT 😜

Then there's the constant bug pressure, the lack of (or excess) rain, the heat, disease, etc. It's a struggle the entire way through. Then when you've just about given up and thrown in the towel you get a gorgeous bloom and proceed to buy more seeds/tubers and plan for a bigger garden next year πŸ˜‚

Note to self... Start them SO much earlier next year πŸ˜‚

Today was the dreaded "deep clean" the coop day... So instead of getting right on it I decided I should wander and water the gardens first. I'm so glad I did! These slightly cooler and less humid days have things FINALLY starting to bloom and thrive ❀️🌿🐝🌼

Also.... The stroll through seeing everything so happy put me in a much better mood and gave me the motivation to tackle the coop 🀣🀣

I may not be able to do all the things.... But...I can grow pretty plants πŸ˜†

Our gardens will forever be unruly. We will continue to choose to spend time with friends and family over pulling weeds. We will have tomatoes go bad on the vine because we were too busy hiking/kayaking/camping/swimming/etc. Our flowers will always be open pollinated because 1) one of our main priorities is helping pollinators and 2) we don't have the time or energy to put those fancy little bags over every bloom 🀣. We will have volunteer plants popping up and thriving where we fully intended for something entirely different to grow.

But.... We also get BEAUTIFUL blooms often in shades that are totally unexpected (that's the beauty of open pollination). We get surprised by perfectly ripened tomatoes that even with all this rain somehow haven't cracked (hungarian heart is my new favorite!). We get total satisfaction in the days when we actually do take the time to pull weeds. Best of all we get to enjoy every bit of it together ❀️

What my yoga routine looks like most days 🀣

I'm not going to lie this spring/summer has been HARD WORK! I had every intention of having our yurt build done by the end of May (which is completely laughable now.. but you live and you learn right?) and that the rest of the summer I could totally dedicate myself to my gardens and reconnecting with "me". Turns out it's almost August and there is still work to be done to finish up the build, my gardens were pretty much a hot mess until the last couple days, and my yoga practice has been inconsistent at best.

I literally told Todd the other day "I miss me" and we hugged it out as we talked about how life gets so busy we forget how important staying connected to ourselves is. We both spoke our intentions of getting back to what brings us joy and fills our cup. From that moment on I felt SO much better ❀️ there's still a ton to be done but that's part of this farm/host life and truly we LOVE it. We are just prioritizing what fills our cup a bit more. I've been more intentional with carving out time on my mat and in the garden as well as reminding myself it'll never get all done in one day. Someone told us they had to learn the marathon method as opposed to a sprint with this whole farm thing (JD if this reaches you that REALLY stuck with us)

So even though yes this is no longer my personal yoga page I'm sharing this little bit of my practice with everyone because well... It brings me joy πŸ˜†
