“It’s okay to be imperfect and still worthy of connection.”

Many of us learned that being lovable meant being composed, productive, agreeable, or strong. We learned to hide the messy parts and to perform instead of reveal.

But connection does not grow from perfection. It grows from openness.

In RO DBT, we talk about how overcontrol and self criticism can quietly block intimacy. When we allow ourselves to be seen as human, uncertain, imperfect, and learning, we create space for real belonging.

Valentine’s Day is often centered around showing love to others.

But one of the most important relationships you will ever have is the one you have with yourself.

Self-love is not selfish. It is foundational.
