We’re often taught that showing emotions or asking for help makes us “weak.” In truth, vulnerability is one of the greatest signs of courage.

Being open and authentic, whether it’s sharing your feelings, admitting you don’t have all the answers, or reaching out for support, shows incredible strength. Vulnerability builds connection, fosters trust, and creates space for real growth.

Have you ever heard of a personality that is considered to be “overcontrolled”?

In Radically Open DBT (RO DBT), being overcontrolled means relying on too much self control. It can show up as hiding emotions, sticking to rigid routines, or valuing independence so strongly that it creates distance in relationships.

Self control can be a strength, but when taken too far it may lead to loneliness, stress, and emotional disconnection.

At RelationQuest Counseling we use RO DBT to help clients grow in openness, flexibility, and connection. This allows more space for joy and authentic relationships. 💙
