Art in Bloom is just ONE MONTH away! We can’t wait to celebrate the creativity of the individuals we serve alongside our incredible community.
Events like this are a reflection of our mission: helping people with developmental disabilities work, live in homes of their choice, and enjoy community life by connecting with others and share their voices through art.
As we count down, we’re also looking ahead to Give DeKalb County, where your support helps make moments like this possible.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and at Opportunity House, we're committed to helping individuals achieve their best quality of life while fostering a community of respect and inclusion.

Originally founded by the Autism Society to promote understanding, this month has evolved to emphasize true acceptance of autistic individuals and their valuable contributions. Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability globally, with around 70 million individuals affected. Awareness efforts date back to 1972 with the launch of “National Autistic Children’s Week” and the introduction of the puzzle ribbon symbol in 1999.

In 2021, the Autism Society officially changed the focus from Autism Awareness Month to Autism Acceptance Month, highlighting the importance of meaningful inclusion.

This April, join us in celebrating by learning, listening, and uplifting autistic voices. Together, we can create an inclusive community where everyone is valued and empowered to thrive.💙

At Opportunity House, we know spring has officially arrived when snow starts melting, flowers start blooming, soccer season kicks off through Opportunity House Athletics , and spring trips like baseball games and sunny picnics return through Opportunity House - Recreation Department.

We were full of St. Paddy's Day spirit today at Community Day Services! Whether it was a fun craft, trying our hand at Irish dancing, or just dressing up with friends, everyone found something to enjoy.
