πΈβ¨ Throwback Thursday: Celebrating DSPs! β¨πΈ
All week weβve been sharing the incredible work of our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) here at Opportunity House. Today, weβre taking it backβbecause to truly appreciate DSPs, we need to look at where this role began.
π What is a DSP?
A Direct Support Professional is someone who empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, work, and thrive in the community of their choice.
π A little history:
The DSP role grew out of the disability rights movement, shifting away from institutions and toward community inclusion. Over time, DSPs have become the backbone of supportβhelping people build independence, achieve goals, and be active, valued members of their communities.
π Today, we honor not only the DSPs of Opportunity House, but all those across the country who have paved the way for greater inclusion and empowerment.
Drop a π in the comments to thank a DSP who has made a difference in your life!
