Reynoldsville Area Ambulance Service, Inc. Sykesville Ambulance Service, Inc.

I would like to thank the board members of the Reynoldsville and Sykesville Ambulance Services for coming together to work on a solution for providing emergency medical care to their communities. We’ve had several meetings between the two services and legal assistance from PWW Law group in putting together a staffing agreement between the services. The staff will be employees of Reynoldsville Ambulance but the crews will cover both service areas when on shift. The crews will alternate between stations. (one day they will be at Reynoldsville and the next in Sykesville)
Initially, we will have a crew on station 16hrs, from 08:00-24:00 or 8am – 12am. And the overnight 12am-8am will be on call, but when the crew goes out on a call they will be on the payroll if they are paid employees.
Both services have been serving the area for over 50 years and a lot has changed from when they first got started. As seen throughout communities worldwide, the day of the volunteer ambulance service has faded away and with the rising cost of living, many community members just can’t volunteer their time like they did in the past.
Starting September 1, 2025 at 08:00 our staffing agreement will go into effect and the staffed crews will be paid to cover calls. I know there will be some bumps along the way, but we will push through them for the better of both communities and do our best to provide emergency care to both communities.
The Reynoldsville and Sykesville Ambulance Services will continue to honor each other’s memberships.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either Daniel Stitt at 814-653-8746 Reynoldsville Ambulance Office or Eric Mehok with Sykesville Ambulance at 814-603-1065.
Employment applications are also available on both services pages. We look forward to the community’s continued support.

Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️
