We’re excited to officially launch the new Department of Public Health website!

Our updated site is now integrated directly into the county website, replacing our previous standalone page. This new platform will make it easier for our community to access public health information, services, programs, updates, and resources all in one place.

Did you know May is Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) Month. Are you sure your child’s car seat is installed correctly? We have several Certified Passenger Seat Technicians in the county that work hard to ensure our children are safe while in a car. If you are unsure if your child’s car seat is installed correctly, Reach Out to Your Local Fire Department, Jackson County Emergency Management, or Jackson County Rescue Squad.

Hepatitis C is a serious disease that can lead to liver cancer if left untreated. The only way to know if you have hepatitis C is to get tested. The CDC now recommends that all adults get tested at least once. Contact Jackson County Department of Public Health at 828-586-8994 to schedule an appointment to get tested.

Currently, there are no confirmed cases of hantavirus in North Carolina. At this time, the risk of infection in our state remains extremely low. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates if new information becomes available.

NCDHHS is closely monitoring the recent hantavirus outbreak connected to the M/V Hondius and remains in communication with federal, state, and local health partners.

At this time, there are no cases of hantavirus in North Carolina and the risk to the public remains extremely low.

Public health officials will continue monitoring the situation and supporting any necessary response efforts to help protect the health and well being of North Carolinians.
