What’s it all about? This class is created specifically for folks who suspect or know they are hypermobile, have a diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), or hypermobile spectrum disorder (HSD). It’s also beneficial for those who want to learn how to strength train in a Smart and Safe manner.
The ULTIMATE GOALS and BENEFITS of our work together include:
- Gaining a good understanding of why our bendy body feels and behaves as it does, and how to feel more at home in it.
- Learning how to reduce or prevent recurrent injuries, flare ups, pain, fatigue, and progressive strength loss.
- Learning about resources for support of folks with these diagnoses.
- Getting stronger, and able to do more of what is important to you.
This is achieved through:
- Learning about our problematic movement patterns and how to switch that for more balanced ones.
- Using appropriate muscles for support and movement, instead of substituting with others that are unable to do the job efficiently.
- Reducing stress to ligaments and joint capsules (the seatbelts), by using muscles and tendons (the “brakes”).
And it provides a foundation for continued strengthening to the level or activity type needed for achieving your personal goals.
You may proceed to heavy lifting, strenuous yard work, artistic dance, yoga hand balances, or just be better prepared for the unexpected activities and tasks, pushes, pulls, or lifts that Life brings to you!
Bring a pair of dumbbells, if you have some. You’ll learn more about what kind of weights are appropriate for you as you go.
