Our team at Upstate Cancer Center downtown and across many of our satellite locations wore blue today in recognition of National Wear Blue Day to help raise awareness about colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., but it is also one of the most preventable cancers with regular screening. When found early, colorectal cancer is highly treatable.

By wearing blue, we hope to spark important conversations about prevention, screening, and knowing the signs and symptoms.

💙 If you’re 45 or older, talk with your healthcare provider about colorectal cancer screening. It could save your life. Learn more: https://www.upstate.edu/media/colorectal-awareness/index.php

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers when caught early.

Cancer Center Chaplains' Corner: Well, the Winter Olympics have ended, and the Paralympics will start in just a couple of days. I enjoy watching all the events and marvel at what the athletes have accomplished in their respective sports. At the same time, what I find most compelling are the “human interest stories” - listening to the journeys that athletes and those close to them have embarked upon together. The ups and downs, facing challenges and working to prevail over them, perseverance and resilience, walking alongside one another throughout…

While we may not be Olympic or Paralympic athletes, we, too, are on journeys. We endure and press onward. And we have stories to share. It’s the stories that are significant, and in sharing them, we connect with one another in real and meaningful ways.

Chaplain Kate and I serve in the Upstate Cancer Center, and between us, we are here every day. We’d love to have an opportunity to meet you, to spend some time together, and hear and share in your stories. Walking with you and your loved ones would be a journey that we’d be privileged to share in.

If you’d like to have us stop by, you can ask your nurse or provider to reach out to us. Or, you can contact us by calling Spiritual Care at (315) 464-4687. We look forward to hearing from you.

Until then, peace and blessings be upon you and your loved ones.

- Chaplain Tom

A routine annual physical. A simple blood test. A life-changing diagnosis.

When Roger learned he had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he faced the question so many patients ask: “Why me?” But instead of looking backward, he chose to move forward, with the support of his care team at Upstate Cancer Center.

Watch Roger’s inspiring journey and see the difference compassionate, expert care can make.

Last week, our Adult Hematology/Oncology clinic team kicked off the Year of the Horse! 🐎

In Lunar New Year traditions, the Year of the Horse symbolizes momentum, movement, and energy, which are qualities our team brings to their work every day in caring for our patients.

Staff received Hongbao (red envelopes), a traditional gift given during the Chinese New Year that symbolizes good luck and prosperity for the year ahead.

We’re grateful for the dedication our team shows year-round and excited to carry that momentum forward in 2026!
