Our youth have been working behind the scenes to create their very own original movie, written by them, filmed by them, and starring them. From storytelling and acting to cameras and production, this project has been completely youth-led from start to finish.

The Heart of Elmcrest is a fun, family-friendly comedy thriller packed with mystery, teamwork, and the creativity of our incredible young people.

We invite you to join us for a special showing and celebrate the hard work, imagination, and talent of these young filmmakers as their movie premieres on the big screen on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Did you know Elmcrest Children's Center is older than the City of Syracuse?

Elmcrest was established on May 10, 1845, three years before Syracuse officially became a city in 1848. While Syracuse had been incorporated as a village in 1825, it wasn’t granted city status until later, meaning Elmcrest was already serving the community before Syracuse became the city we know today.

For more than 180 years, Elmcrest has been a true beacon of hope in our community. Through generations of change, challenge, and growth, Elmcrest has remained committed to uplifting children, strengthening families, and providing care, guidance, and opportunity to those who need it most.

Every child deserves the chance to feel safe, supported, and empowered.

At Elmcrest, we walk alongside children, youth, and families every day, helping them build resilience, discover their strengths, and create brighter futures.

From early education to residential care, from community programs to workforce development, our mission is rooted in one belief: healing happens through connection, opportunity, and hope.

Because when we invest in young people, we invest in our entire community.

Elmcrest Children’s Center is proud to announce the launch of our new Intensive Behavior Respite Program, located at Casey’s Place (228 Lafayette Road, Syracuse).

This short-term, therapeutic respite program supports youth ages 5–26 with OPWDD eligibility, including individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or dual diagnoses who experience high behavioral needs.

Families caring for children and young adults with significant behavioral challenges often face intense daily demands. This new program was created to support the whole family, offering youth a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment, while caregivers receive meaningful relief and reassurance.

đź’™ Program highlights include:
✔️ Behavioral Specialist on site
✔️ RN support
✔️ Initial 1:1 supervision
✔️ Evidence-based behavioral interventions
✔️ Active family involvement
✔️ Sensory room, observation rooms & accessible playground

This important program is made possible through the generous support of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, whose investment helps strengthen community-based services for children, youth, and families across CNY.

Elmcrest would like to sincerely thank Anthony, a member of Journeys, for his generosity and dedication to our community. Anthony organized a fundraiser and toy drive in Syracuse, providing both a cash donation and toys to help bring joy to the children we serve.

As an engineering student in his final year, Anthony continues to give back through service and community involvement, and we are truly grateful for his efforts and his connection with Journeys that helped make this possible. Thank you for making a meaningful impact!

Aaron, a youth in our residential program, has a big heart, and a love for cooking for others.

Recently, he hosted a pancake breakfast for staff, where tips were collected to help purchase items for Golisano Children’s Hospital.

From planning the menu to serving breakfast, Aaron was all in and so proud to be giving back. Experiences like this allow our youth to build confidence, learn generosity, and spread kindness in meaningful ways.

We couldn’t be more proud of Aaron and the compassion he shared with our community.
