This morning I hosted a guest wellness session with the girls at Brighton in their girls group đ¤
And let me just say⌠the youth are doing the work toođĽš
We hear a lot about whatâs going wrong with young people, but there are also so many spaces where theyâre showing up, reflecting, and growing, sometimes better than the adults đ
When I got there the girls were ready. We started by talking about what âbeing wellâ actually means to us and kicked the morning off by each sharing one thing weâre proud of.
Then we did a âstep forward ifâŚâ activity and talked about how our habits and reactions can impact our wellness.
Step forward if youâve ever sent a text quick and later wished you paused first.
Step forward if youâve ever spent too much time on social media and felt drained after.
Step forward if youâve ever paused before sending that text and were glad you did.
Step forward if youâve ever danced, played a sport, or moved your body and felt more confident after.
Step forward if youâve ever used music to shift your mood.
Step forward if youâve ever felt better after talking something out with a friend.
It was powerful seeing how many girls stepped forward for the same things. Sometimes we think weâre the only ones dealing with something, but a lot of these experiences are shared.
We also talked about different types of wellness and where emotions show up in the body from head to toe, and how learning to listen to our bodies can help us understand what weâre feeling.
We explored the feelings wheel too and talked about how there are way more emotions than just âgoodâ or âbad.â Learning the language for what weâre actually feeling⌠and remembering the joy too.
Then we talked about ways we can take care of ourselves and each other.
And of course we closed it out with a little meditation and movement to wake the body up for the day. I always give the kids credit because starting the day this early is real work đŽâđ¨
Our young people deserve spaces like this. Shout out to the people creating and holding them. đ¤
