Arc of Onondaga "Turning Disability into Ability." Arc of Onondaga is a Chapter of The Arc New York.

MISSION
Arc of Onondaga supports people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities in leading meaningful lives within their community. Arc of Onondaga is one of 35 local Chapters of The Arc New York, the largest provider of supports and services for people intellectual and developmental disabilities in New York state. In addition to the programs Arc of Onondaga offers in Onondaga County, Chapters of The Arc New York collectively support more than 60,000 people with disabilities and their families in every county of the state and employ more than 30,000 people in our shared mission to provide people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities the ordinary and extraordinary opportunities of life. As part of this larger statewide organization, Arc of Onondaga draws upon a rich network of expertise and statewide resources to ensure the highest quality services for the people we serve, and to raise the unified voices our Chapter communities and nearly 100,000 members statewide to strengthen our advocacy efforts. Founded by families more than 75 years ago, The Arc New York has driven transformation and progress in the lives of people with disabilities, fought and ended the abuses of institutionalization, and developed a robust system of community support that provides opportunity, dignity, and integration for people with disabilities. Together with [Chapter] and other Chapters across the state, The Arc New York continues to be an influential advocate for our system of care, and the rights and opportunities of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The 2025 Arc Race is one week from today! The Arc Race is all about family, community, and inclusion and this is a great opportunity to get those kiddos out and moving as the new school year begins! Sign your little ones up for the Kids' 1-Mile Fun Run or grab the whole family and walk the 3K, then stick around for free refreshments and activities in the Family Fun Zone! We'll have face painting, balloon twisting, inflatable Skee-Ball, hockey goals, ice cream from Gannon's, plus the Finisher Photo Booth! Every kid who runs the mile will receive a medal plus a free pass to the MOST ExploraDome and every participant will receive a tote bag, a wrist water bottle, and a t-shirt. Our amazing team of CPCs (Centralized Plan Coordinators) is rocking their new Arc shirts! These shirts were designed using tiny images of art created by the people we support and made into a montage in the shape of a butterfly by our Arts Coordinator, Erica. Our content creator, Chris, then turned the artwork into the graphic that became our new employee appreciation shirts!

Here's a little something to brighten up your day! The sunflowers in these photos were planted from seeds inside the Art Studio during the Spring. The Green Team worked with people we support to plant the seeds, transplant the sprouts, then plant them in the ground and in planters as part of our beautification project. It's exciting to see them bloom and to see the pollinators enjoying them!

Like other chapters under The Arc New York, we feel it's important to celebrate collaborative efforts such as these which show tangible results and real achievement! Congrats to all of the green thumbs! You made beautiful things happen!
