π It is our great pleasure to finally, formally welcome everyone to the Autism Nature Trail at Letchworth State Park (ANT).
π This 1-mile, ADA compliant trail has eight self-guided interactive sensory stations specifically designed for patrons on the autism spectrum.
π± There are shortcuts to shorten your adventure if preferred. Some stations stimulate, some stations soothe:
π Explore new nature treasures at the sensory station.
βοΈ Enjoy the gentle rocking of a cuddle swing at Sunshine Slope.
πΆ Serenade the woods at the Music Circle.
π³ Let the woods calm you at the Reflection Knoll.
ππ½ββοΈ Dash like the wind at the Meadow Run and Climb.
πͺ΅ Build a masterpiece shelter from natural materials at the Design Zone.
𧱠Experiment with new trail surfaces at the Playful Path.
π₯³ Lastly, look back on your journey and make your mark on the chalkboard at the Celebration Station.
π π π This project is the result of Loren Penman, Gail Serventi, and Susan Herrnsteinβs tireless dedication to a seven-year vision to create a truly inclusive positive outdoor experience for all.
π¨ NYS Parks provided the land, and the ANT, its own organization, raised $3.3 million of public funds to cover the cost of construction.
π Go to AutismNatureTrail.com and check out NYS Parksβ blog for more on this project, the first of its kind in the United States: https://bit.ly/3mjYNnd
π Most importantly, everyone should come and enjoy the ANT, open and free during Letchworth State Park hours of operation, 6am to 11pm.
π The ANT is in the area of the Humphrey Nature Center, between the Visitor Center and Inspiration Point. Look for the new signage!
