Invitation for families from the NTID PLAY Lab!
Dr. Rain Bosworth and Dr. Allison Fitch, researchers at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, are inviting caregivers and their children to participate in the Museum Exploratory Behaviors Study (MEBS).
This study takes place at the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. Travel compensation can be provided for out-of-town families with two participating children.
Parents with 2-to-6-year-old children are invited to participate. We are recruiting children who have hearing loss and hearing CODA children who sign at home.
Children who have autism, visual impairment, or other disabilities are also eligible to participate. Deaf children and their hearing siblings are eligible and can be tested during the same visits.
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to fill out background surveys. At a scheduled time that is convenient for you, you and your child will meet our research team for a one-hour visit at the Strong Museum of Play. We use video cameras to record you and your child’s play for 20 minutes. Afterwards, you are free to explore the museum on your own with your family. Then, we ask you to make a second visit for a 1.5-hour assessment visit. During this time, we assess your child’s motor skills and vocabulary.
If you are interested in learning more about this study, fill out the Short Study Interest Form at tinyurl.com/playstudies. Our lab coordinator will reach out to you to discuss eligibility for the study.
