Proud of our SUNY Upstate representation at AAO-HNS this past weekend in Indianapolis!

Dr. Seth Jeong (PGY3) gave a fantastic oral presentation on office-based procedures for chronic rhinitis and nasal obstruction 👏🏼 👃🏽

Two of our attendings, Dr. Arnold and Dr. Obayemi, sat on a panel which discussed the intersection between rhinologists and facial plastic surgeons for workup and treatment of nasal obstruction 👏🏼 👃🏽

Kelly Kim (Upstate medical students) presented a case report poster on a unique genetic mutation leading to craniofacial malformations! 👏🏼

“It is with great pleasure and confidence that we announce Dr. Amar Suryadevara as chair of the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences,” Chin said. “Having served as interim chair since 2021, Dr. Suryadevara has demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to advancing the department. We are grateful for his continued leadership of this important clinical department.”

Last night we celebrated our graduating chief residents and fellow!!! It has been a pleasure working with and learning from these incredible physicians. We are fortunate enough to be holding onto two of our chiefs as faculty next year - making the transition after graduation this year a bit easier and less emotional on all of us

✨ Dr. Rachel Kearl will be joining on as Upstate faculty and will be working with Dr. Charles Woods on an otology fellowship

✨ Dr. Jacob Mesches will be joining Upstate faculty as a general otolaryngologist with a focus on sleep surgery and facial trauma

✨ Dr. Michael Tao will be joining a private practice as a general otolaryngologist focused on sinus and otology just north of Seattle, WA

✨ Dr. Ramya Bharathi (FPRS fellow) will be returning to her home residency program of Tufts as a facial plastics attending

We are so proud of all of our graduates and will miss Dr. Tao and Dr. Bharathi dearly. Special shoutout to our award winners last night:
- Dr. Josh Sen won the award for highest inservice score for the second year in a row! 🤓 👏🏼
- Dr. Kelsey Laccourege won the award for best temporal bone! 👂🏽👏🏼
- Dr. Rachel Kearl won the chief resident teaching award! 👩🏼‍🏫👏🏼
- Dr. Ramya Bharathi won the faculty teaching award - the first time one of our fellows has won this award! 👩🏽‍⚕️👏🏼

Our chiefs haven’t been the best at taking photos together so continue swiping to discover a rare photo of the three of them together taken at our chief skits night last weekend ♥️

✨ Dr. Jacob Mesches (PGY5) gave his final resident Grand Rounds presentation yesterday morning on topical hemostatic agents!🩸He taught us about all of our tools when it comes to topical hemostasis - touching on the cost of each agent and the molecular mechanism by which they function. We now will feel much more empowered when making these decisions with consults as well as in the OR.

Great talk, Dr. Mesches! 👏🏼

✨ Dr. Ramya Bharathi (FPRS Fellow) gave an excellent Grand Rounds presentation this morning on panfacial traumas! We see a lot of these at Upstate so it was very beneficial to go through the approach and management of these patients. There are many things to consider - from the management of the airway to the order in which one decides to stabilize multiple complex facial fractures.

Dr. Bharathi has been such a wonderful addition to our Upstate ENT family this year and she has taught us so much. 🤓 Great talk, Dr. Bharathi!
