How to help a child experiencing correction for myopia for the first time.

Kids who have myopia or nearsightedness will see things differently for the first time with their glasses on. It’s tempting to ask if it’s better, but it’s better to focus on the differences. While the child is probably seeing “better” from their perspective it just feels different.

Correction for myopia will clear up things in the distance, so always begin by looking far way.

Ask and discuss these things:
“Do things look different?”
“Do things smaller?”
“Do things look further away?”
“Do you feel taller?”
“Do you notice how the edges of objects are easier to see with your glasses on? We say that it looks sharper. What do you think?”

After the child has had some time analyzing their new vision, they will certainly agree... “things looks better!”

I think it’s better seeing my meowmy from far away bringing my treats! I like seeing the treats clearly, this way I know exactly how many treats I’m getting!
