🧠 World Brain Day Spotlight 🌎

Today we’re celebrating the incredible team on 12E Neurology at UGCH — a 21-bed pediatric unit specializing in care for children and adolescents with Cystic Fibrosis, new-onset diabetes, and those undergoing video EEG monitoring to evaluate seizures and other neurological conditions.

EEG (electroencephalogram) monitoring measures the brain’s electrical activity, helping our care teams better understand and treat conditions like epilepsy.

Big thank you to the 12E nurses, technicians, and staff for providing expert, compassionate care every day 💙

For Chronic Disease Day, our pediatric patients living with chronic illness are showing off their superpowers, while celebrating the heroes who inspire them.

And with the new movie opening today, we’re reminded that true heroes aren’t only found on the big screen, they’re also here in the hospital facing each day with extraordinary courage 💙

🩺 Today on , we raise awareness for primary immune deficiency—a chronic illness that can lead to frequent, severe, and even life-threatening infections in infants and young children.

🧬 Caused by rare genetic abnormalities, primary immune deficiency disrupts the normal development and function of the immune system. While each genetic defect is uncommon, together they create a significant health burden.

If a child experiences frequent or unusual infections, immune system testing—including genetic testing—can help identify the underlying cause.

💊 Treatment often includes:
• Early detection of infections
• Preventative antibiotics
• Therapeutic infusions like immunoglobulin
• Staying up to date with most routine vaccines

With proper care and monitoring, children with primary immune deficiency can thrive!

☀️ Staying safe in the sun starts with simple habits! Here’s how to protect your family from harmful UV rays this summer:

🧢 Wear a hat with a 3-inch brim to shield your face, ears, and neck.

🕶 Choose sunglasses with at least 99% UV protection—kids need them too!

🕒 Avoid direct sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when UV rays are strongest.

🧴 Apply (and reapply) sunscreen regularly.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Teach your kids about sun safety—and lead by example!

☀️ July is UV Safety Awareness Month, and it’s also a critical time to remember the dangers of heat — especially for children.

🚗 On average, a child dies from heatstroke every 9 days in the U.S. More than half of these tragedies happen when a caregiver simply forgets the child is in the car.

🔥 A car can heat up by 19 degrees in just 10 minutes, even with a window cracked.

👶 Young children are at greater risk, as their bodies heat up 3–5 times faster than adults.

Please take a moment to double-check the backseat. Look before you lock. Every life matters!
