🐶🏆 From hospital hero to show ring star: Upstate therapy dog Bodhi takes on Westminster! We threw a media party for Bodhi today to celebrate his upcoming appearance at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Manhattan. Bodhi, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, competed once a month for the past two years to finally win an American Champion title that qualified him for the big show. But his most important work happens with our patients and staff. Thanks for all you do, Bodhi, and good luck at America’s Dog Show!

Falls and collisions can happen during winter sports and knowing what to do next can protect your child’s brain. Think your child may have a concussion?

- Get medical care right away and keep them out of play until they are symptom-free, evaluated, and cleared by a physician.

- Returning to play too soon increases the risk of serious, lasting brain injury. Let their brain rest and heal.

- Always tell your child’s coach about any recent concussion.

Winter sports are a fun way for kids to stay active and enjoy the season. Wearing helmets, following the rules, and knowing when to take a break can help prevent concussions and protect growing brains.

At Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, we’re reminding families that prevention starts with a few simple steps:

• Make sure your child wears the right protective equipment for their sport, like helmets and pads. Check that it fits properly, is in good condition, and is worn consistently and correctly.

• Know the signs and symptoms of a concussion.

• Ensure your child follows their coach’s safety guidelines and the rules of the sport.

• Encourage good sportsmanship both on and off the ice or slopes.

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping kids safe while they play this winter 💙

Amber Conley spends her days helping children navigate big emotions and challenging moments.

As a Behavior Specialist at Upstate's Biobehavioral Health Unit (BBHU), Amber provides constant 1-1 support and collaborates with nurses, psychiatrists and social workers to create individualized plans for each patient.

The BBHU is the first unit of its kind in New York State, built to serve children and teens with developmental disabilities who need comprehensive behavioral and mental health care.
