Start your engines! 🏁🏎️

The annual Pinewood Derby returned to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, where patients had the chance to design, build and race their own wooden cars.

A special thank you to the Longhouse Council and our Upstate Physical Plant Carpenters for helping bring these cars to life, and to Sue Karl for returning to emcee one of her favorite traditions!

Creative designs, photo-finish races and plenty of smiles made for a day full of excitement and friendly competition. Days like this bring a little extra joy to patients and families 💙

Feeling lucky to work alongside such incredible teams!🍀

This St. Patrick’s Day, our Upstate Peds & Adolescent clinic (UPAC) team spread some joy with shamrock shakes for staff. We’re also celebrating World Social Worker Day and the compassion our social workers bring to patients and families every day 💚

A Tully family says they are thankful to have Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and Upstate University Hospital close by when norovirus swept through their family, landing little Charlie & Vince in the hospital days apart, followed by their grandmother!

Mom Alana & Dad Scott both work at Upstate, but this was their first experience with the children’s hospital. Mom was running between floors 12 and 11, checking on her two kids while worrying about her own mother downstairs. The staff stepped in with kindness and compassion. They coordinated rooms next door to each other for the kids. One of Charlie’s doctors spent some time racing cars with her to make her smile. Child Life served as a calm presence during IVs and NGT placement.

Mom Alana said the staff made some of their hardest days a little bit easier. Both kids are feeling much better (including Grandma). Charlie is back to her baby dolls and stuffed animals while Vince is enjoying his teethers and his jumper.

Guess it goes to show—you never truly know if or when you’ll need your children’s hospital. Charlie & Vince and many other families say that they feel lucky to have a premier children’s hospital right here in our backyard for any of life’s crazy moments 💚

March is National Nutrition Month, and March 13 marks Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day 🍎

At Upstate Golisano, pediatric dietitians Kellie Wall and Katrina Dufresne help support children with complex nutrition needs. They work with patients who receive tube or parenteral nutrition, children who need support gaining weight and those living with inflammatory bowel disease through the Improved Care Now program.

In addition to the Pediatric GI clinic, Katrina also works in the metabolic clinic, caring for patients with inborn errors of metabolism.

Thank you for the important role you play in helping kids grow and thrive!
