I am currently studying my advanced degree in Yoga therapy from SVYASA University in Bangalore, a world renowned research University focusing on integrative health care. I also trained for 5 months in South India, at the Ashtanga Research Institute in Mysore, Karnataka and at SVYASA University in Bangalore, Karnataka to obtain my teaching certifications. My approach to teaching is simple:

Recognize the differences in each student on a physical and psychological level, factor in their goals for practicing Yoga and coach them towards building a safe, steady rewarding practice. Based on my studies, my understanding of Yoga is that it is not a one size fits all approach. Yoga recognizes the individuality within us all, and the fact that we are always changing. The philosophy of Yoga is to focus on what we can change and not what is stagnant. Also, attention to minor details in our perception and sensory organs to build control of our bodily movements and also our impulses/self control. The anatomy of a good Yoga practice has emphasis on proper breathing, awareness to what is happening in the body and mind, and the adaptation of the practice to the individual’s needs/limitations/changes in physical and psychological state. By focusing on these factors we become more in tune with our bodies natural rhythms but more importantly we are able to maintain a safe practice with low risk of injury. This enables me to instruct an affordable group class where each person is able to have their goals addressed. All classes have a casual laid back atmosphere with a lot of smiles and laughter, because all in all true Yoga emphasizes a positive outlook on life and the therapeutic value of a smile or laugh. "We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act."
