One thing being an athlete and a business owner taught me about health and fitness:
If you care at all about the sustainability of your health and your ability to function to your full potential, you’re going to want to know this…
I’m speaking to all those hard workers out there: athletes, entrepreneurs, influencers, success-driven parents, those who want to make a difference in the world…
Neglecting your needs will always impact your performance.
You cannot give from an empty cup.
I know that may sound cliche, but I have seen time after time people try to push and grow without considering their basic needs:
Good Rest, Sleep, Solid Nutrition, Happiness, Fun, Fulfillment.
There is a time and place for pushing yourself, but if you are missing any one of those things for too long, you will suffer.
If you try to compensate somewhere else, eventually you’ll run out of ways to compensate.
Don’t believe me?
Here’s some proof:
I spent years not eating enough so I could get smaller and smaller so I could run faster in college and eventually ended up with an eating disorder, hormonal imbalances, panic attacks, chronic joint pain, and gut problems. In a sense, my efforts to force myself to get faster lead to a long setback to my running career…
I have a client who claimed he could function on less than 6 hours of sleep working 10-12 hours days and working out 3-4 times per week. When he finally started getting enough sleep, his chronic pain started lessening and his performance in the gym increased…
I have another client who reached her goal of becoming a competitive bodybuilder, but at the expense of her happiness, health, and control over eating…
I tried to push and push to be the best worker and colleague, but eventually learned that I had to stop people-pleasing and start setting boundaries if I wanted to avoid totally ruining my health. Once I did that, my success and impact skyrocketed…
