Well said! And to individualize one’s home to unique needs, incorporate someone who is skilled in evaluating movement patterns, cognive & visual abilities to identify any home modification and accessibility needs

While most baby boomers wish to remain in their homes, many are not renovating them to accommodate natural changes that come with aging.

THIS! This is what fuels my desire to be an aging in place / home safety consultant. Too many times, I have gone in to assess homes that were “remodeled so we can age here!” and run into these types of oversights. It is my goal to save people hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars and help them design a tailored, individualized space to fit their abilities and unique needs BEFORE they hire the contractor/remodeler. I believe occupational therapists have a unique understanding of human movement and disease progression while taking into account habits, routines, and preferences that allow for a more comprehensive picture of their environmental needs.

I am excited to finally put into practice what's been on my mind for the past 10(ish) years! Welcome to Function First Homes, where I will be combining my 15 years experience as an occupational therapist with my love of home safety, design and accessibility for all.
