We welcomed 60 managers today for our Core Conference. Today’s topic? Imposter Syndrome. We used the metaphor of the Wizard of Oz’s main characters to exam our own insecurities and how to overcome them. We are so lucky that CSLS invests in making us stronger together by providing training and time to be together to learn and grow.

At 6th Avenue Senior Living, our staff came together for a fun team challenge: build the tallest free-standing tower using only spaghetti sticks, with one marshmallow required on top.
Watching the creativity, epic fails, quick recoveries, and ultimate victories was pure entertainment. More importantly, it was a great reminder that strong teams grow through collaboration, problem-solving, and being willing to try, miss, adjust, and try again.
The goal was bigger than the tower. It was about teamwork, creating a psychologically safe workplace, and reinforcing that innovation often comes through trial and error.

Today, our staff had the opportunity to write a thank-you letter to Tacoma’s brand-new Mayor, Anders Ibsen, thanking him for stepping up to serve our community. It was a pleasure talking with him about his vision and strategies for investing in our city—and yes, we’re optimistic about where the ship is headed.

One of our staff members even brought her 10-year-old daughter to the swearing-in ceremony last night—because civic duty isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we teach. From voting to serving, democracy works best when the next generation is watching and learning.

A new year, a new Mayor, and plenty of change ahead. Mayor Ibsen, thank you for your service—we look forward to the journey.

Puyallup Tribal Councilwoman Annette Bryan swore in City of Tacoma Mayor Anders Ibsen tonight during the first city council meeting of the new year.

Councilwoman Bryan briefly spoke on the improvement in the relationship between the Tribe and City of Tacoma over the last decade, noting a Puyallup Tribal flag is now on display in Tacoma City Council chambers.

Throughout his time with CSLS, Jake consistently embodied our core values through his kindness, professionalism, and commitment to resident care. As a Med Tech, he wore many hats and excelled in every role he took on, always showing up with a positive attitude, a genuine smile, and a deep sense of care for those around him.

One moment that truly reflects his character was choosing to miss our holiday celebration in order to support staff and ensure residents were well cared for. That selflessness speaks volumes about the kind of team member and person Jake is.

We are grateful for the impact he made on our residents, our staff, and our community. Thank you, Jake, for everything you contributed during your time with CSLS, and we wish you continued success in all that comes next.
