INTRODUCING Heather Pounds, ARNP!!
Heather grew up in the Gig Harbor area, she always knew she wanted to be in in health care like her mom who was an ER nurse at St. Joes. She Attended WSU for three years before deciding she wanted to become a paramedic. She went to EMT school and worked at St Joes ER as tech (with her Mom) and on the Ambulance as an EMT for Shepard Ambulance (now AMR). Shortly later, she graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University’s Paramedic Program. She continued working for AMR as a paramedic and at the Tacoma General ER as an ED Paramedic. 10 years later, went back to School to get her RN and started her nursing career as a PACU nurse. She missed the bustle of the ER and transferred back to ED nursing. After a few years, she moved into the role of hospital supervisor before landing her then dream Job with Trauma Trust as their Educator and Injury prevention and Outreach specialist. 7 months later, she took the position of Director of the trauma program for Tacoma General and Allenmore Hospitals. Additionally, Heather also taught multiple advanced life safety classes for Cascade Health for 14 years. In 2018, she decided to go back to School to get her master’s degree. She graduated from the Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons University in Boston in 2020. Her goal after graduation was to be part of the trauma and Acute surgery Team but needed to get some experience first. She said goodbye to her Trauma family and went to work for Dispatch Health, doing acute care home visits as well as working at MultiCare’s off campus Emergency Departments. In October of 2022, a new position was created at Trauma Trust in the outpatient clinic that Heather was hired into. In January 2024, Heather started her training to join the in-patient team where she is working today, happily in her new dream job!
When not at work, Heather enjoys skiing, boating, kayaking, traveling with her husband and being a mom to 4 amazing kids. She also is co-owner of a local IV hydration business that keeps her busy on her off days.
