Happy Spring!

Today is the spring equinox and marks the beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere. This is a time of longer days as the access of the earth bows once again toward the sun. Nature wakes up from her resting phase full of vitality.

Spring is the most dynamic, energetic, and creative time of the year. Maybe you feel that nudge to be active, start creative projects, or plant new seeds and intentions?

Sending my AAPI fam all my love today on the anniversary of the Atlanta shooting. We lost Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim, Soon Chung Park, Yong Ae Yue, Paul Andre Michels and Delaina Ashley Yaun Gonzalez on March 16, 2021 when a white supremacist gunman went on a shooting rampage across Atlanta at 3 Asian-owned massage parlors. This grief sits heavily on my heart. My roots are in Atlanta. I was born there and grew up not far from where Hyun Jung Grant raised her two boys. My parents still live there and experience indignities on the regular. I’m there with the Atlanta community today in spirit ❤️

Our community has felt anger, anguish and terror since the beginning of the pandemic when long-held anti-Asian beliefs bubbled up to the surface resulting in countless anti-Asian hate crimes and bias incidents. And the onslaught has only continued. Despite the media cycle having moved on, we still feel the lasting trauma, worry for our parents, experience pain and fear deeply. Just a few days ago in New York, a Filipina elder was punched 125 times for being Asian. I’ve been avoiding the news lately because each time I hear about another attack, it’s like another cut in my heart where there are so many cuts already still unhealed.

Allies, thank you for standing with us. Please continue to check in on us and give us compassionate support. Together we’ll continue to mobilize and organize and advocate for resources, community safety, mutual aid, transformative justice and education.

May this art bring you a small bit of peace today as you look at these Asian guardians staring back at us, in dappled light, dignified and defiant, from Lincoln Center’s campus. Adapted for “We Belong Here” at Lincoln Center from “I Still Believe In Our City” made with (Spring 2021).

Please feel free to share this art with credit.

has been organizing rallies across the country today. Check out their page for details and resources.

It’s our 4th birthday!! And, what a ride it’s been! 🥳🎉

Year 1: We spent our first year nomadic, teaching at nature and community spaces.

Year 2: We became studio owners! We opened our minimalist studio in the basement of Courthouse Square and offered 20 + classes a week with a sliding- scale pricing ( $10, $5 or good vibes).

Year 3: In 2020, we shifted to content creators as we moved online due to the pandemic. We did not teach any in person classes this year.

Year 4: Erica joined Casey as co-owner and we’ve gone back to our roots as a nomadic business.

We have continued to pivot and
shift while navigating a business during a pandemic. We are so grateful for your support!

Nalley Valley pick-up was a💥RECORD BREAKER💥

On 2/26, in just under 2 hours, 💚103💚
RESULTS DRIVEN and RESPONSIVE volunteers safely picked up ✨1,290✨ pounds of trash and marked 26💉to be safely disposed of in Tacoma’s ✨Nalley Valley✨area. This was the LARGEST group we’ve had, the ✨FIRST✨ time we’ve broken 1,000 pounds and needed 3 trucks 🛻 to haul trash to the dump!

We ⭐️RECOGNIZED and THANKED⭐️ 13 amazing volunteers who have attended 4+ pick-ups with an Oscar’s Enemies enamel pin!

In addition to spending their Saturday morning picking up 🚮 litter, volunteers collectively donated 226 rolls of 🧻 toilet paper, 53 🧼 hand soaps, 41🧴dish soaps, 2 rolls of paper towels and 1 body wash to the folks receiving support at Crystal Judson Family Center- so incredible! Moving forward we will be identifying a ♥️Tacoma♥️, non profit to collect donations for once a quarter!

We are overjoyed 💗 with the continuous support from volunteers, local businesses and artists. Special thanks to and for your generous 🎟 raffle prize donations

Thank you to - .realtor for participating and consistently sharing what we do with the community- we are truly grateful! we SO appreciate you being able to step in and take 📷 photos last minute- team work and flexibility is pervasive within this group!

SWIPE to see a community of kind hearted and community driven volunteers working together to make a difference one piece of trash at a time 🚮!

Thank you to all that participated in Yoga at TAM () this past weekend! 💕

Inspired by the art on display, Erica spoke about Meryl McMaster, a Canadian indigenous artist who explores themes of representation and identity through self portraiture. She states that her work "...is about trying to learn more about my culture, to immerse myself, learn the stories and the language. It wasn't only dwelling on the issues of the past, but trying to think about the future as well and what I will pass on to the next generation."

View McMaster's and other inspiring artist's work at TAM and join us 4/3 for the next yoga class.

A T T E N T I O N T A C O M A | Have you heard about the proposed (huge) industrial development in the Oakland-Madrona neighborhood that will increase pollution and cause harm?

Thank you and for your work in raising awareness for the proposed 50 warehouses that would occupy almost 150 acres of grasses, four wetlands, and a stream, sitting on top of the natural aquifer that provides to come out with 40% of its water.

Learn more and take action at links in bio.

Repost from

We have deep concern about the 2.5 million square feet of warehouse space Bridge Point Tacoma is proposing to build in South Tacoma (Permit LU21-0125).

This would be the 8th largest warehouse complex in the world and add 5,000 vehicle trips per day, paving over 150 acres of open space, and compromising the aquifer which provides much of Tacoma's water.

This is a huge environmental justice issue.

This area of South Tacoma has, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department:

- a higher than average percentage of residents who are People of Color
- the second highest poverty rate
- the shortest life expectancy
- the most lung cancer
- the most heart disease
- the most mental health issues

This massive development does not align with many of the City's policies and programs, including the Climate Action Plan, the 2025 Strategic Plan, the Passive Open Span Plan, and the Urban Forestry Management Plan, to name a few. Instead, it seems to marginalize our most vulnerable residents.

We would very much like to see the South Tacoma Neighborhood Council's Green Industrial Zone proposal move forward before projects such as this one are allowed to proceed.

We believe in a more vibrant, equitable, and healthy Tacoma for all. Please help us get there by ensuring the public, particularly those most impacted, has a say in this project and that a full environmental review be carried out.

M A R C H 2 7 | Yoga & Nature Walk at Swan Creek Park with Tahoma Audubon Society () Sunday 10-11:15am.

The stillness of bird watching is an opportunity to pause and take it all in — to listen closely to each unique song, to experience the seasons and migratory patterns of birds, and to learn about native plants and other wildlife in their habitat. Bird watching teaches us how to listen closely (to bird songs), to observe (migratory patterns), and to appreciate and love nature. This is mindfulness.

Enjoy a gentle walk through Swan Creek Park. We will stop along the way to practice breathing techniques, mindful movement, and gentle stretches while observing and listening to the birds around us. This class is great for yoga beginners or anyone that enjoys being outdoors.

Repost from

Yes, we must continue to do the things that bring us comfort.

We need to still take long walks and hot baths.

We need to watch that 10000th episode for Friends just for the comfort of familiarity.

But also we need to make space for the other stuff. The anger, righteous rage and overwhelm. This stuff is great fuel for action.

And remember, we always, always feel better when we share it with someone else.

Repost from

Have you ever wondered how long it would take nature to reclaim a neighborhood if everyone just got up and left? It’s hard to say how long an average house would last, but if you wiped the neighborhood off the map and left the ground bare, 67 years is, evidently, more than enough time to blend the land back into the surrounding wilderness.
We know this because that’s what happened to 700 houses in the Old Salishan neighborhood in 1951. Aside from the paved roads and moss covered sidewalks, the 50 acres of land near the east end of 48th St. bears very few signs that anyone ever lived here at all.
The neighborhood was once part of a massive 2,000-home housing project created in 1942-43. 1,600 homes were designed to be permanent while 400 were only temporary. They were built to house the tens of thousands of military personnel and workers moving to Tacoma as wartime production ramped up.
The main employers in the area were McChord Field, Fort Lewis, the Mount Rainier Ordnance Depot, and shipyards around Commencement Bay. With people coming in from all over to populate the new development, Salishan became one of Tacoma’s first racially integrated neighborhoods.

From our statement, Unwavering and Unbreakable: Addressing recent attacks on Trans and Non-Binary Youth

“We share your outrage with the seemingly endless attacks on our communities and yet we’re reminded all the time how incredibly powerful our grantees, applicants and our larger TJFP community is. We resist any narratives or efforts that seek to undermine our communities’ survival. Trans communities have proven throughout history that our commitments to keeping each other safe are unwavering and unbreakable. We are committed to trans futures, trans stories, trans families, and trans lives on a deep and personal level because these are ours, our kin in transness and queerness, our family that we will show up to protect. We are here with you!"

Broken hearted over the passing of a friend, colleague, and inspiring teacher. Leslie was a vibrant presence and will be greatly missed.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute . We are holding your community and Leslie’s friends and family in our hearts.

Repost from

To our beloved Kula,

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that my friend, Leslie Whitecrow has passed away. Leslie was an incredible mentor, and teacher, environmentalist, and most importantly, she was an amazing friend. My heart is heavy and I’m still in shock. This loss has filled me with so much sadness, as I know it will for many of you, but I wanted you to hear this news from me in the best way I know how.

Leslie was such a huge part of our community. She was always available to help, support, and encourage. She was a part of everything we did - all the experiences we’ve shared. Even if you didn’t know her personally, You may have known of her big presence, the skillful, fun and challenging classes where you couldn’t get away with a bad chaturanga:) and for the way everyone, no matter your skill level, felt held on the journey with her. As someone who learned from her and taught alongside her, the most impactful thing for me was the heartfelt authenticity with which she lived her life. She shared her life experiences willingly and transparently, hoping that her learnings and insights could be shared and offer perspective and comfort to those that needed it.

I know this will be hard for many of you to hear. My heartfelt wish is that I could tell each of you personally. I want to acknowledge that email is a very difficult way to share this news, but I wanted to share this with you sooner rather than later.

Repost from

We did not wake up in a different world today - we woke up in the same world that continues to place profit over planet, destruction over humanity and violence over empathy and compassion. We need global systems change to end the continuous suffering of both people and planet. Our hearts are broken and we will continue to fight to dismantle systems of oppression. We appeal to leaders across the globe to stop senseless violence + war.
