Cicra 1978 Tacoma Historic Preservation Rankos' Stadium Pharmacy's own, Don Hebert, Pharmacist is a key advocate and was very active in the Medical Society of Pierce County. His work is highlighted throughout the Bulletin! Reading this reminds me of Uncle Don's commitment to patient advocacy and his compassionate, giving nature...
He worked as a pharmacist at Rankos' Stadium Pharmacy with MDs, patients, and others in the field for the safety and advancement of healthcare in Pierce County. Actively advocating for pharmacist/MD relationships, conversations, patient safety, and more.
One specific area of Don's interest highlighted in the bulletin. conveyed concern about misinterpretation of patients (in this case, diabetic patients) in need of medical care, who were mistakenly being interpreted as impaired for other reasons.
Don Hebert did so much good. He was deeply committed and worked for the protection of patients and the advancement of the profession. He was an early advocate of the pharmacist/MD close line of collaboration.
It's so interesting to read about how the profession of pharmacy has changed over the years. The respected and renowned MD who wrote a featured article referenced above wrote: "Did you know that the pharmacist is now required to ask the patient if he is allergic to the drug prescribed for him by the physician? I wasn’t aware of this requirement and it raised my hackles, for I consider it my responsibility to know these possibilities and be on guard for them."
...Things sure have changed...as a pharmacist, I'm honored to support prescribers and patients and when I request allergies...it is with the best of intentions...to protect each patient and assure we are a line of defense for every prescriber and patient...to all work together for the best patient outcomes and safety. And honored to carry on the traditions George Rankos, Gregory Rankos, Don Hebert, and the many pharmacists who devoted their lifes to patients and the constant evolution and betterment of the profession through Rankos Pharmacy
You will never to be forgotten, Uncle Don Hebert
