THE END OF AN ERA - Habit opened its doors 4.10.2017 and we’ll officially be closing them 9.27.2024. While we’ve had an incredible 7+ years serving our community and clients and over 12+ years coaching in Tacoma, Coaches Pat and Steff’s lives are heading into a new season. First, thank you to our Habit family over the years, YOU have made this experience magical and you’ve shaped our lives! Second, we always preach balance and now it’s time for us to take our own advice. There is so much more to say, but here are some highlights:
•Prevail online nutrition, workout and app services will remain available until further notice.
• will continue to work out of our gym space after 9.27. We wish them the best!
•We may have select equipment available for sale, we’ll keep you posted.
•We invite current and former members to join us for a “goodbye” workout 9.21 9am, we hope you consider joining us for a final workout together.
•For those of you with equipment left at the gym, please plan to collect gear from your lockers before 9.21, otherwise we will be donating to a local organization.
Thank you, thank you all. May your squats be deep and your lifts feel light. Light weight, baby!

Last week we shared a few of our favorite foods for optimal immune function!

Today, we’re here to offer one of our other favorite ways to keep our bodies strong through the colder months

You guessed it! Movement.

Consistent physical activity plays a key role in keeping your body healthy and preventing illness.

However, the type of activity matters. Studies have shown that an hour of moderate to vigorous intensity movement for 30-60 minutes is ideal for immune boosting benefits.

Wanna know the coolest part? Similar to your muscles, your immune system will actually continue to build off previous grains and become stronger each time!

*Sniff* *Cough* 🤧 Must be October!

A lot of people (especially those with kids) simply resign themselves to the fact that the fall and winter seasons mean the whole house will likely be sick at some point, or many points.

However, there are plenty of ways to support your immune system through those sniffly month, and you don’t even need to leave your kitchen to do so!

A few of our favorites

🥕 Carrots, sweet potatoes and green leafy vegetables (high in beta-carotene)
🍓 Strawberries, red peppers, oranges, tomatoes, mangoes nad broccoli (high in Vitamin C and E)
🍣 Salmon and other lean proteins (high in Omegas, DHA and EPA)

Advice of the day:

Allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to accept what you're afraid of and then muster a steadfast belief in your ability to prevail.

Coach Pat's fear was largely about being a coach and providing guidance to clients but not taking his own advice and feeling like a fraud. He decided to share his one year fat loss journey. He shed 60 pounds by being consistent with his training, nutrition, sleep, and mindset. Consistency was key and he tracked it all.

One of the most esteem-boosting activities one can do is to keep a promise to themselves, and this journey fueled Coach Pat's confidence and belief in his ability to help others.

Figuring out what to cook after a long day can feel overwhelming. Piecing together a meal from a nearly bare fridge? Might just feel impossible.

Here are a few tips that can help so you can protect your wallet from another take-out order tonight!

1. Figure out your starch (pasta, rice)
2. If you have a protein, throw that in (lean meat, chicken, fish, tofu)
3. Find a veggie and/or sauce

and voila!

We asked Coach Steff what the biggest limiting belief she had to overcome was and this is what she said,

"At 5’-2” I’ve always been told I was “too small” to be a competitive athlete.

Over time (and through lots of failures), I learned more about my unique strengths and mental endurance and have tested them in various sports and activities.

Seeing other petite athletes like Simone Biles, Ons Jabeur, Megan Rapinoe and Marisa Inda dominate in their respective sports inspired me to keep doing what I love.

My consistency, mental strength and tenacity are regularly tested and help me to continue to find success in bodybuilding, powerlifting, on my skis, and on the tennis court.

Now, I embrace every bit of my petite, fierce self!"
