Its Dry January so we're dropping some facts about alcohol use and tips for practicing sobriety!🔊

Did you know, binge drinking is defined as consuming 5 or more drinks for men or 4 or more drinks for women on one occasion? Heavy drinking is defined as 15 or more drinks for men or 8 or more drinks for women. 🤯

Drinking excessively increases your risk for:
❌Violence.
❌Sexual risk behaviors.
❌Alcohol poisoning.
❌Injuries, such as motor vehicle crashes.
❌Cancer.
❌Liver disease.
❌High blood pressure.
❌Alcohol use disorder.

In fact, Native Americans are impacted by higher rates of substance abuse than the general population in America. Some factors that explain why include:

👎Historical trauma.
👎Violence (including high levels of gang violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault).
👎Poverty.
👎High levels of unemployment.
👎Discrimination.
👎Racism.
👎Lack of health insurance.
👎Low levels of attained education.

If you or any of your loved ones have been impacted by substance abuse, we at Echota, are here for you. 🫂

Tonight’s game celebrated Native American Heritage Night, led by the United Keetoowah Band, and Echota Behavioral Health was honored to participate in such a meaningful and exciting event. We loved meeting everyone who came out to celebrate culture, community, and hockey together.
