A CHANGE TO NAVIGATE TOGETHER

Dear Friends & Family of Body in Context,

I’m Helene Houghton, founder of Body in Context. You might know me well…or only as the invisible “lab‑coat” in the background helping our therapists swap ideas and nerd out on fascia. Either way, I’m grateful you’re part of this clinic’s story.

Before I say anything else: thank you.

Your trust has let our little clinic do big things since 2017. I know this note may stir a few feelings, and I want you to hear the news from me personally.

The headline:
Our Talent clinic will close on August 31, 2025. Each of our wonderful therapists—including me—will be moving to new professional homes the following week. I’ll share everyone’s new addresses and booking links as soon as we have them available.

I want to acknowledge that this is a big shift for you as well, and promise that I and our team will do our very best to make this transition as seamless as possible for you.

We’ve also sent out an email to all our patients, but we realize that not everyone checks their email, and some of the email addresses have bounced-so we are doing our best to share this as many ways as we can.

Why the change?
Life recently turned up its volume. My family needs more of me right now that I currently have to give them: my mother‑in‑law’s dementia has advanced, my 90‑year‑old dad now needs daily help, and my own health finally has been giving me important warning signs I need to pay attention to. After many late‑night spreadsheets and heartfelt talks, I saw that running a multi‑therapist clinic and doing right by family simply don’t fit on the same calendar page.

What’s rock‑solid:

Your current prepaid package is absolutely safe:
-You can use them with your current therapist any time before August 31, 2025.
-Prefer to wait? I’ll honor every unused minute in my new solo office—no extra fee, no expiration—I’ll add a bonus 30 minutes to your first session with me as thanks for your support.

-Your favorite therapist isn’t disappearing.I love my staff deeply and am doing my best to help each LMT land in a great new space and take you with them. As soon as leases/contracts are final, we’ll email you their address, booking link, and phone number so you can hit the ground running.

-Your records travel safely. With your permission, we’ll transfer treatment notes so your progress never loses momentum.

NEXT STEPS
-Book any remaining sessions soon—especially if you want to see your current therapist before August 31.

-Watch for the “Where to Find Us Next” email; it’ll have all the new contact details so you can cheer your LMT on in their next adventure.

-Tell us how we’re doing. A thumbs‑up—or letting us know any concerns—helps us support you better.

My promise
Transparency, respect, and excellent care remain non‑negotiable. If any detail feels off‑kilter, just email me at health@bodyincontext.com. We’ll sort it out together.

Change can feel like uprooting a well‑loved tree, but remember: those roots make new shoots possible. Thank you for helping us plant the next grove—one therapist, one client, one act of care at a time.

With gratitude and care,

Helene Houghton, LMT

John-Paul McMullen, LMT
---Massage Therapist, Nervous System Listener, Tissue Translator---

John-Paul has been practicing massage therapy for over 30 years. His work is rooted in listening—not just to what you say, but to what your body has been trying to say all along.

Drawing from deep tissue techniques, reflexology, energy work, and decades of hands-on experience, John-Paul brings a kind of quiet presence to the table that helps people feel safe enough to soften. He’s here to meet you, to collaborate with your body’s own wisdom. To help it exhale.

Clients describe his sessions as deeply grounding and surprisingly insightful. Whether you’re dealing with neck and shoulder tension, wrist or foot pain, or the aftereffects of tough seasons and stored stress, John-Paul helps you reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have gone quiet.

He specializes in working with thoughtful, intentional people—those who’ve been through a lot, and are ready for massage that’s more than routine. His sessions are connected, skilled, and attuned to what’s actually happening under the surface.

John-Paul has lived in Oregon since 1999, working in clinics, spas, and private practice. These days, he brings all his tools—and his signature calm—to the Body in Context team.

If you’re looking for massage that feels like a conversation between skilled hands and a nervous system that’s ready to be heard, John-Paul may be just the guide your body’s been waiting for.

What if your massage therapist could actually HEAR your body?
Not just “knead the knots,” but *listen* through layers of tissue, tension, and trust?

That’s John-Paul’s superpower.

With over 30 years of experience (yes, really), John-Paul blends deep tissue precision, energetic awareness, and a deep therapeutic intuition. People say, “My body feels heard.”

And here's the thing: when the body feels HEARD, it starts to answer back. With movement. With softness. With breath.

If you’ve been through a lot—injury, stress, emotional wear and tear—John-Paul’s approach offers more than just relief.
It offers recognition.

NOW BOOKING: Thoughtful, deep, listening-based bodywork.

THE CASE OF THE MYSTERIOUS HEEL PAIN
(Spoiler: it wasn’t plantar fasciitis.)
~By Helene Houghton, LMT 22467

Imagine stepping out of bed—and zing! Sharp pain on the inside of your heel, near your arch. You limp to the kitchen. Still there. “Is this plantar fasciitis??,” you think.

That’s what my patient thought too.

Let’s call her Anna. She had pain on the medial side of her right heel—classic plantar fascia territory. So she rolled it, stretched it, iced it… but the pain didn’t fade as the day went on.

It got worse.

That’s when she came to our clinic. We don’t just treat tissue—we ask questions. Her pain pattern didn’t follow the plantar fasciitis script. It got worse with activity, not better. Plus:

Pain increased with ankle movement (eversion + dorsiflexion).

She couldn’t easily abduct her pinkie toe (hint: nerve involvement).

Enter: Baxter’s nerve.
A small but mighty branch of the lateral plantar nerve. It winds through tight spaces in the inner heel and can get compressed—causing pain that mimics plantar fasciitis but feels sharper, deeper, or zappier.

We zoomed out and worked upstream:

Released tension in the calf and tarsal tunnel, where the tibial nerve travels.

Gave love to the quadratus plantae, a common entrapment site.

Invited glide and space through fascial layers and nerve beds all along the path of the nerve.

The pain began to melt.

Not a miracle. Just method.

When pain doesn’t follow the usual rules, it’s time to look deeper. Nerves don’t just end—they travel. And sometimes it takes a curious partner to trace the real cause.

That’s what we do.

Massage for People Who Google Their Symptoms and Own a Foam Roller

We’d love to introduce you to one of our awesome Medical Massage LMTs – Currently Accepting New Patients!

Helene isn’t just a massage therapist—she teaches anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

She trains other professionals how to understand nerve entrapments, lymph flow, pain science, and what’s really happening beneath the skin.

Which means when your shoulder’s acting up or your feet go numb halfway through the day—she doesn’t just nod and smile. She investigates. She maps. She tracks fluid flow like it’s an Amazon package.

And then… she gets to work. She sees you as her teammate and partner- working together to help you not only feel better, but to understand *why* you got there and the concrete steps you can take to take charge and change those painful patterns.

The result? Hands-on work that feels amazing and is based on real science.

GREAT NEWS: Helene has just recently opened up more availability on her schedule and now is open again to taking new patients for the first time in three years!
