We are so grateful for the amazing support from the Calhoun County Career Academy Nursing Students and the Hope Christian Academy Mission Team who came out to help us pull off a wonderful Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday! 💛

Our students had an absolute blast hunting for eggs—including beeping eggs for our visually impaired students and creatively adapted eggs attached to strings with balloons so students with mobility challenges could fully join in the fun. 🎈🐣

With face painting, games, laughter, and smiles all around, it truly was a day filled with joy and inclusion for everyone involved. We are so thankful for a community that shows up and makes moments like these possible!

It is time for SPRING CLEANING! 🌼🧽

Our Ag students rolled up their sleeves and got to work—washing away pollen from the picnic tables and making the raised beds exteriors sparkle again. Their hard work is helping create a clean, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy this season!

We’re proud of their teamwork and dedication! 🌱✨

Our boys and girls in the independent living dorms look forward to cooking nights twice a week—and for good reason! 🍳✨

These hands-on experiences go far beyond making a meal. Cooking helps our students:
🍽️ Build independence and confidence in daily living skills
🧠 Strengthen problem-solving, planning, and organization
💬 Practice communication and teamwork with peers and staff
💵 Learn real-life skills like budgeting, measuring, and following directions
🥦 Explore healthy food choices and nutrition

Most importantly, it gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment when they sit down to enjoy something they created themselves. 💛

We love watching their skills grow—one recipe at a time!

Our prom girls had such a special experience thanks to the generosity of Center of Hope Thrift Store in Oxford 💙✨

They were invited to come try on prom dresses—and for those who found “the dress,” it was gifted to them! 👗 What a beautiful way to make prom dreams come true.

We are so grateful for a community that shows up for our students in meaningful, confidence-building ways. Thank you for helping our girls feel celebrated, seen, and absolutely radiant! 💫

Tierece has been hard at work preparing beef stew during his off-campus job training at Red Door Kitchen 👨🏾‍🍳🥕🍲

From prepping ingredients to staying focused on each step, he is building real-world skills that will carry him beyond the classroom and into his future. Experiences like this help students grow in confidence, independence, and purpose—and Tierece is showing what that looks like every day.

With graduation just around the corner in May, we are so proud of the progress he’s made and the path he’s creating for himself. The best is truly yet to come! 🎓✨

Luke had such a fun time in speech this week with Mrs. Jill! 💛 He made the sweetest little bird feeder in the shape of a heart using a pipe cleaner and cereal 🥣🧡 After he finished, they went outside together to hang it on a tree 🌳🐦 Such a simple activity, but full of learning, creativity, and joy!

This week in Coach Mallory’s PE class, students had a blast playing a festive game called “Capture the Coin!” 🍀🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️💨

Students became leprechauns on a mission to collect gold ✨🍯 in a fun relay-style race. Each student ran down to a cone, lifted it to see if a coin was hidden underneath 🪙👀, and then raced back to their team.

The challenge? They had to use their memory 🧠 to remember which cones had already been checked so their team could find the most coins! 🏆

To wrap it up, teams worked together 🤝 to count their coins and see who came out on top. It was a great mix of movement, teamwork, problem-solving 🏅—and lots of smiles along the way 😄🎉

Great minds (and great style!) think alike 😄🧥

Keimonta and Mrs. Ashleigh had a fun surprise at Eagles Landing when they realized they were wearing the exact same jacket! What started as a quick bump-in turned into a moment full of smiles and connection across departments.

It’s the little moments like these that make our school community so special 💙

St. Patrick’s Day in Mrs. Jennifer’s class was extra magical… 🍀✨

They read How to Catch a Leprechaun—but with a twist…Mrs. Jennifer was the leprechaun! ☘️

Students put their problem-solving skills to work by creating their own traps using only string, thinking creatively and independently. Then, as a team, they worked together—recalling details from the story—to design a group trap to catch that sneaky leprechaun!

The room was filled with laughter, communication, and so much engagement. Moments like these remind us that when learning is fun, it sticks 💚

Hands-on learning + teamwork + imagination = a classroom full of joy!

🏀💙 Champions Again! 💙🏀

The Helen Keller School Eagles soared at the 2026 Alabama Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament in Auburn!

A special highlight of the day was Senior Tierece Wilson being selected as the torch bearer to kick off the event—an incredible honor and a proud moment for HKS! 🔥

The Eagles brought their determination to the court:
🏀 HKS vs. Decatur Parks & Rec – Win 29–19
🏀 Championship Game: HKS vs. Decatur Raiders – Win 28–20

🎉 The Eagles are your 2026 Special Olympics Division 4 State Champions! 🎉

This marks the third state basketball championship in the last four years under the leadership of Coach Lara Hurst. After finishing 2nd place last year, the team came back stronger than ever to reclaim the title!

Even more special is the incredible senior season of Tierece Wilson, who finishes his HKS career with:
🏐 A Special Olympics State Volleyball Championship
🏀 A Special Olympics State Basketball Championship
⛳ A Gold Medal at the National Special Olympics Golf Tournament

Tierece is an outstanding athlete, leader, and young man, and we couldn’t be prouder of all he has accomplished. Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff on an amazing season!
