Unfortunately, the majority of insurance companies still do not cover thermography, however, if you are unable to pay "out of pocket" there are other options for payment! We are making strides!!

Thermography: FSA Eligibility
Thermography: eligible with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Thermography is eligible for reimbursement with a flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA), or a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). Thermography is not eligible with a dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA), or a limited-purpose flexible spending account (LPFSA).

Why it's usually covered:
Medical Application: Thermography uses infrared imaging to detect subtle temperature changes, potentially identifying conditions like cancer or tumors, qualifying it as a diagnostic service.
HSA/FSA Rules: The IRS allows these funds for medical care, and thermography falls under eligible diagnostic services or medical equipment when linked to a health need.

Dense Breasts and Mammograms:

*The Problem: Dense breast tissue (fibrous and glandular tissue) appears white on mammograms, just like tumors, hiding potential cancers and increasing false negatives (missed cancers).
*The Impact: This can lead to missed cancers, with accuracy dropping significantly in dense breasts.

How Thermography Helps with Dense Breasts:

*Measures Heat, Not Structure: Thermography uses infrared cameras to map heat patterns, revealing physiological changes like inflammation or increased blood flow, which are independent of tissue density.
*No Density Issues: Since it detects heat rather than structure, dense tissue doesn't obscure potential problems, offering a clearer view.
*Provides Baseline: It creates a functional baseline of breast health, allowing for monitoring of changes over time.

Limitations and Recommendations:
For Early Awareness: It's considered a supportive tool for early detection and monitoring, especially for younger women or those with dense breasts, but not a definitive diagnostic test (biopsy is needed for diagnosis)
