We are thrilled to announce our newest general cardiologist, Natalia Rocha, MD! Dr. Rocha comes to us from Minnesota, and is already enjoying our warmer weather. ☀️

Dr. Rocha received her Doctorate of Medicine from the Universidade Federal do Ceara in Fortaleza, Brazil, and completed both her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Her certifications include the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Echocardiography.

Dr. Rocha is passionate about understanding the intricate connection between metabolic conditions—such as diabetes and obesity—and heart disease, and she is dedicated to helping her patients achieve optimal heart health through tailored, evidence-based care. Outside of work, Dr. Rocha enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young children, especially exploring the outdoors and relaxing at the beach or pool.

Our internal medicine division is thrilled to announce James Brown, MD, our newest internist. Dr. Brown has a long history in Tallahassee, Florida State University, and FSU's Internal Medicine Residency Program at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. He was even chief president from 2024–2025! 🙌

Dr. Brown is passionate about being accessible and attentive, and listening well to his patients, while providing them with both preventative and acute care. “Listen to your patient; he is telling you the diagnosis.” - Sir William Osler

When not at work he enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelbi, his family, gardening, and the quiet thrills of the Panhandle’s swamps and waterways.

🎈 Exciting news for SMG’s Internal Medicine Division! Please welcome Chelsey Parsons, APRN and Rachel Conner, APRN, who both started with us at our main location this spring.

Chelsey works for Dr. Forsthoefel and is passionate about building relationships with her patients. When not at work you can find her spending time with her two daughters, family and friends, being physically active, and enjoying all things outdoors. Fun fact: She was previously a nutrition and wellness coach in Tallahassee for two years! 🌱

Rachel works for Dr. Powers and her favorite part of her job is taking care of patients - knowing they are heard and respected. When not at work Rachel enjoys traveling to new places and spending time with family and friends. She has even been skydiving in Switzerland, and studied abroad in Florence, Italy! ✈️

🎉 Introducing Manuela “Ela” Maxwell, APRN and Katie Crawford, APRN! These two nurse practitioners are not new to Southern Medical Group and may even look familiar. Both have a long history of working as an RN for our cardiology division.

Ela will be working with Dr. Barry in general cardiology at our main location. Ela is an attentive listener and always strives to get to the bottom of patient’s problems - she loves to have a positive impact. Fun fact about Ela – she saw the Berlin wall come down in person!

Katie will be working with Dr. Krothapalli in electrophysiology at our Heart Rhythm Clinic. Katie is passionate about making sure patients truly understand their diagnosis and the reasoning behind the plan of care. When not at work, you can find her spending time with her family, dog, goats, and chickens – and thrift shopping!

🎉Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Achieves Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation!🎉

We are thrilled to announce that Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare has successfully completed all mandatory requirements for Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) Accreditation by the American College of Cardiology (ACC)! 💖

A Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) is a specialized area where doctors perform minimally invasive tests and procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions. Using thin, flexible tubes called catheters, interventional cardiologists can assess blood flow, clear blocked arteries, implant stents and conduct life-saving treatments such as angioplasty—all without the need for open-heart surgery.

The accreditation review, conducted on February 12, recognizes the outstanding collaboration between the Southern Medical Group Cardiologists and the TMH team, with special recognition to the leadership of Dr. Thomas Noel, Interventional Cardiologist, Christopher Buzzard, Director of Invasive Cardiology and Daniel Cavallo, Service Line Administrator. Their collective efforts have been pivotal in navigating the intricate accreditation process, underscoring the shared commitment to quality improvement in cardiac care. 👏

Exciting news at the Heart Rhythm Clinic! Introducing Siva Krothapalli, M.D., our new electrophysiologist cardiologist! Dr. Krothapalli joins us from Pittsburgh, PA, and is already enjoying our warmer climate. ☀️

Dr. Krothapalli was drawn to electrophysiology because it is an exciting field of medicine, ever evolving, giving him many opportunities to contribute in meaningful way to his patients’ lives. His favorite part of his job is to be able to answer his patients’ questions and guide them to better health.

When not at work Dr. Krothapalli loves spending time with his 2-year-old son. Welcome to Florida and Southern Medical Group, Dr. Krothapalli! We’re so glad you’re here. 🎉
