Implementing phonological approaches like The Complexity Approach sometimes means breaking the word down in order to encourage the kid more! These picture cues are by far the most motivating tool I use every day…finding the right game is helpful too! The best part of this session was probably the muscles he was making- but OBV not pictured!!

Working on s-clusters can be laborious for kids and therapists- so OFTEN I add a random song and half the time I have no clue where it came from! But kids LOVE a song and the benefits:
➡️bring joy and happiness
➡️lighten the mood
➡️make us 😊
➡️improve engagement!!!
What song tunes do you default to?

For our YOUNGEST kiddos especially- the right cues/pictures are MAGICAL! A singing animal for the L sound and a fish making a round-lipped face for the W sound. If it works-it works!!! Comment with your favorite cue card?

Teaching clients to generalize (or carry the word into conversation) comes from saying words in different ways, over and over. I like to make it fun by using silly voices. Comment below with your favorite trick!

Minima Pairs is a phonological intervention that I use daily in my practice. It’s a contrastive approach where we are contrasting two words with very similar features! Here I am using minimal pairs cards by author Rebecca to demonstrate!

VISUALS CAN’T BE OVERUSED!!
Loving seeing the increased accuracy of my students finding the correct productions of R with the staRt app!
How CRAZY that an RO word (WITH ROUNDED LIPS) gave us success today!

Target Selection!! Fellow Clinicians/grad students- how do we know the best sounds to target? Think phonological processes when a kid’s intelligibility is very low and you hear lots of sound errors.
🛑Avoid choosing one sound to target for the next several months and instead, identify the processes they are using!
➡️Which approach fits?? Cycles? Multiple oppositions? Minimal pairs? Complexity?
Don’t know what these are? ➡️Follow along because I’m going to be discussing them in the coming days!!
