Megan Devine, grief advocate and author, has some advice for how to offer support to a grieving person:

“What we're talking about are grown-up communication skills—being willing to say, ‘I keep inviting you to things because it's important to me that you know that I want you around. You never say yes to them. Do you want me to keep asking you?’

And, your grieving person might come back with, “I love that you ask. There's no way I’m going to say yes right now, but I really love that you ask.’

You don't know that unless you check in with them.

Watch you assumptions.

Always, always, always check in with your person.”
