Happy International Nurses Day!

Hospice nurses specialize in palliative care, a special kind of care that keeps pain to a minimum and increases comfort. The nurse is the liaison between the patient and the physician and other health care professionals. The hospice nurse makes intermittent visits to monitor and evaluate your condition. The nurse provides the patient and family with information about the illness and helps manage the pain and symptoms of the disease. Many Florida hospices use certified hospice and palliative care nurses who have obtained specialized training.

FHPCA will host a free webinar on building a winning awards application, led by FHPCA President & CEO Paul Ledford. With more than 30 years of experience serving on awards committees, Paul brings deep insight into what makes an entry stand out and the common pitfalls that can take even strong submissions out of the running. He will share practical tips, review frequent mistakes, and discuss strategies for strengthening applications in highly competitive award programs. Paul is also interviewing other association executives who oversee excellence awards in their respective sectors, adding broader perspective to the conversation. In addition, we’ll cover the steps FHPCA’s Awards Subcommittee takes to reduce judging bias and ensure a fair evaluation process. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. The session will be recorded for those who cannot attend live.

Thank you, Congressman Greg Steube, (FL-17th) for introducing the FL/NC/SC joint letter to Dr. Oz into the record at the Ways & Means Committee Hearing on hospice fraud and abuse on April 21. The gist of the letter is those states with robust regulatory systems and oversight (like Florida) are NOT experiencing hospice fraud and abuse and hospice providers in those states should not be subjected to the same onerous corrective measures as the states where fraud and abuse is occurring. It is completely appropriate for CMS to use its authority for highly focused enforcement by investigating the specific companies displaying the warning signs of fraud and abuse.

April 25 celebrates License Plate Day because this day in 1901 was when the first license plate was issued in the US. This started a trend that spread across the whole country, making the roads safer for everyone. (National Today, 2022)

Since its introduction in the summer of 2004, the Hospice Specialty License Plate has raised millions of dollars. Every dollar is dedicated to expanding and enriching hospice care across Florida. 🦋🧡
