The 2026 FCCFA Embalming & Restorative Arts Seminar was a success!

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Miami-Dade College Funeral Service Education (FSE) Program and the Frigid Fluid Company, FCCFA was able to bring together funeral service professionals and students for an intensive, hands-on learning experience, April 1, 2026. Participants gained exposure to industry innovations in embalming techniques, equipment, chemicals, and restorative art cosmetics.

Special thanks to Miami-Dade College’s Dean Dr. Venezuela, FSE Professor Dr. Scotece, and Department Chair Dr. Saha for hosting, to Frigid Fluid Company for sponsoring and for providing their dedicated team, Nelson Sanchez, Benjamin Schmidt, and Madeline “Mel the Mortician” Lyles, to make this event possible.

HB 1231/ SB 598 PASSES UNANIMOUSLY!

Today is the last day of the Florida legislative session, and we are thrilled to report that FCCFA's priority package, HB 1231/SB 598, has passed unanimously!

The bill reduces administrative barriers, ensures no exclusive contracts between health, palliative, and hospice providers with any funeral service professionals, increases access to licensure by streamlined endorsement and modernizes Chapter 497.

While this bill is on its way to the Governor for signing, we wanted to take a moment to thank our exceptional Government Affairs team and other volunteers for their great work in educating legislators on these important issues. FCCFA wishes to thank Senator Truenow and Representative Oliver for their support.

The FCCFA invites you to the 2026 Embalming Seminar! Join experts Benjamin Schmidt and Madeline Lyles, in partnership with the Frigid Fluid Company, for an advanced embalming seminar for students and funeral professionals. This fast-paced session will include both classroom and hands-on instruction in Miami Dade College's state-of-the-art anatomy lab.

Formaldehyde is an effective embalming chemical, but it works better in a team! In this seminar, Ben and Mel will discuss how to navigate common embalming challenges using supplemental chemicals such as triethanolamine, alcohols, and lanolin. Mel will also share some of her trade secrets on how to put the finishing touches using some of her favorite accessory chemicals.

In this seminar, we will cover:

Tips and tricks for case analysis

Outcomes and applications of supplemental and accessory chemicals

Ways to control post-embalming changes

For the past decade the Vicki Uselton Memorial Golf Tournament has provided funds for charities of importance to FCCFA Members and the death care community. This year's charity is Angels for Allison, a non-profit founded in memory of 15-year-old Allison Haramis. The charity aids families who suffer the loss of a child by providing financial assistance for funeral services. The golf outing raised $18,000 (a few thousand more was donated after the event) for the charity and to date has raised over $150,000 for deserving non-profits.

Last week FCCFA leaders had the pleasure of meeting with and hearing from Rep. Vanessa Oliver (R-Punta Gorda). The discussion touched on topics of importance to the death care profession, many of which were familiar to the representative, who previously served on the Florida Board of Funeral Cemetery and Consumer Services.
