Wakami provides work for indigenous Guatemalans. This allows them to remain in their villages and home country where they want to be with their families. Unfortunately and counterintuitively, a major amount of their funding has been severed due to the border conflicts. At Threads Worldwide we partner with Wakami and other fair trade cooperatives around the world connecting them to the marketplace here in the US. These are my business partners. We are in this together.

No one should have to walk 1,000 miles to give their family a chance. Wakami believes in connecting rural women and families to the global marketplace to create sources of income that change lives and communities. By giving women a stable source of income, they are able to make the right choice...

Did you know...through fair trade practices, our Threads Worldwide artisan partners set their own prices. We never negotiate or talk down their prices. They determine their prices taking in many factors such as: time, materials, cost of food, transportation costs, etc. This is so different than how most markets work, but it truly leads to people earning fair-livable wages. It has transformed they way I think about paying for goods on a daily basis.
