FHA applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing an extension of the enhanced premium tax credits. Recently, FHA President and CEO Mary Mayhew spoke with WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX about the expiration of enhanced ACA subsidies and what it means for Floridians at risk of losing coverage and for hospitals standing in the gap to provide care.

“With the expiration of the enhanced assistance, we’re concerned that nearly one million Floridians could lose access to really good health insurance coverage,” Mayhew said.

Mary Mayhew, FHA president and CEO, appeared on The News Service of Florida’s Deeper Dive podcast with Dara Kam, where she discussed the role of enhanced premium tax credits in supporting Florida families in accessing care and the impacts if Congress doesn’t extend the program.

“The vast majority of people getting coverage through the marketplace are small business owners and workers – the backbone of Florida’s economy… Over a million Floridians are at risk of losing coverage – and that means more uninsured patients and higher costs for everyone,” said Mayhew.

FHA is urging Congress to extend the enhanced premium tax credits available through the federal Marketplace.

“The individual marketplace plays a vital role in connecting working Floridians to health coverage that ensures timely, appropriate care,” is a message FHA president and CEO Mary Mayhew continues to echo as FHA works to ensure Floridians can affordably access primary care.

And Medicaid and nonprofits won’t pick up the slack.

The federal health insurance marketplace offers coverage for Florida’s small businesses and self-employed workers. Millions of Floridians could face unaffordable coverage or, worse, lose coverage altogether.

According to FHA’s own, Mary C. Mayhew, small business owners and employees from mom and pop businesses from pizza shops to auto body repair shops rely on enhanced premium tax credits for the right care at the right time and in the right setting.
