Disappointment around not having the birth you expected is real. PTSD, postpartum is also real. No matter what your experience, if it's not what you dreamed of, it can leave a lasting negative impression. Talking to a trusted friend or practitioner can be useful and some may need more intensive therapy.
The birth of your child may even look perfect from the outside but may not have felt how you expected. It may help to tell your story.

For some women, the psychological toll of childbirth leads to a form of PTSD—distinct from postpartum depression—that follows them into new motherhood.
