It is with a heavy heart to relay that Dr. James Cox, founder of the Cox technique, has passed away. A chiropractic pioneer and leader, he has touched so many professionally and personally. I am blessed to have known him and learned so much from him.

Today, the work continues to dismantle the dehumanizing practice of human trafficking in our city.

“I’ve been a part of TPD’s Special Victims Unit for three years focusing on human trafficking cases. These cases are very complex and time-consuming, and we often describe them as spiderwebs because many different leads and persons of interest can stem from a single human trafficking tip. It’s our job to investigate every lead and stop those who choose to exploit vulnerable people. When you build connections with the victims and get to know them, the case can weigh on you emotionally. But, at the end of the day, it’s very rewarding to stop a trafficker from continuing their practice.” – Detective Howard.

On National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, join us in generating awareness and know these facts:

- Human trafficking affects men and women of all ages, not just children.
- Many traffickers are known to their victim.
- Oftentimes, human trafficking victims won’t ask for help because they don’t see themselves as victims due to manipulation from their trafficker.
- A victim of human trafficking may avoid eye contact and social interaction.
- Individuals who pay for sexual acts are a major component in continuing the practice of human trafficking today.
