Capital Area Healthy Start, partnered with Simply Healthcare, is excited to announce our newest initiative launching at the end of August: Community Doulas!

Community-based doulas are trained individuals who often provide culturally appropriate emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth. Research has shown that women who had the support of a doula during childbirth were less likely to have pain-relief medications given and less likely to have a c-section birth. This is especially important because the U.S. as well as, Leon County are facing a maternal and infant health crisis that disproportionally impacts the birth experience and outcomes of Black women.

With the inception of our new Community Doula program, Capital Area Healthy Start hopes to help bridge the Black infant and maternal mortality gap, as well as improve the birth outcomes for all women and babies in our local area!

Every family deserves compassionate, responsive doula care—regardless of income. We are immensely proud of our Community Doula Program and the dedicated doulas making a lasting difference in our community. Happy Community Doula Week!
