Conversations that start like this, will always cost you more, if you continue.

Same as when you donโ€™t like a restaurant. You donโ€™t go back, you go somewhere else, or you start cooking. Or, when you canโ€™t afford a restaurant, you donโ€™t comment on their prices, you go the cheaper oneโ€ฆ or fast. Right?

Or, same as when a hairstylist doesnโ€™t listen to what you want. You find someone else. And at least with a hairstylist your hair can be destroyed for the next few years. With a cleaner the worst that happens is that they didnโ€™t clean your light fixtures, which can easily be fixed. Or they didnโ€™t wet your plants, while they were there anyway, and had the audacity to charge you for the extra task that wasnโ€™t included in your quote, and had nothing to do with a cleaning service. Because thatโ€™s what you complain about, that it wasnโ€™t done for free. You can say no, and call your last cleaner that charges you less. Where are they all, after all?

Look, I get it. You want security before letting someone into your space. Same like you are expecting you wonโ€™t get food poisoning when eating out. References, insurance, bond certificate, general liability. A legitimate tax paying business provides all of that. Now we even have to dance on social media to convince you we are real humans, that we own the business, and that we actually do the work instead of just snapping our fingers.

But at some point the anxiety and idiocy has to stop. Because if you donโ€™t like me after we work together you just donโ€™t book again. That is it. Nothing happens. No contract for life. And itโ€™s usually reciprocal.

I understand caution when you are making a transaction of millions of dollars. But hiring a cleaning service is one of the lowest risk decisions you will ever make. And yet some potential clients still act like they are hiring a thief even after a face to the business, social media presence, proof of work, and every credential you asked for.

At that point maybe a cleaning service is just not for you.

Do not follow the path blindly or adopt someone elseโ€™s story as your future.

For example, almost everyone told me start with residential. It is easier. Do not touch commercial until you are ready. I did the exact opposite. I started with commercial with no experience in the cleaning business.

The only reason people say residential is easier is because it is faster cash. I personally hate it overall. I still do residential occasionally but I turn down most potential clients. But this is not a post about choosing commercial over residential. I am explaining why cleaners say residential is easier and why I went against the advice I received. It is important to build your own lane even going against the predictable odds the industry establishes.

Everything I knew came from picking up checks off kitchen counters for two cleaning ladies I worked for years ago. Watching them pay for their houses in Chicago with cash. That was my entire motivation.

Now two commercial contracts cover 80% of my previous gross income and helped me go full time in my business. Took some major risks to get those contracts too.

Watch everything. Research everything. There are thousands of hours of content out there and so many ways to build this.

But you have to have the intelligence and the wisdom to filter what applies to your situation specifically. Your circumstances, your personality, your character, your goals are not the same as anyone elseโ€™s. I personally filter everything through biblical principles.

The only wrong move is being so rigid about someone elseโ€™s path that you adopt their story as your future and never find your own.

Just ordered 500 flyers + 100 door hangers. Dropping them at churches, current clientsโ€™ businesses, office clusters, and hanging them on business doors.

I donโ€™t take any client that negotiates my price, and I am straightforward about that from the start. I know it goes against general knowledge in sales, but hereโ€™s my take, after dealing with my own share of cheap clients, for a long time.

There is a proven psychological pattern that shows itself in every industry without exception. People who fixate on your price do not understand the value of your work and have already made a decision about you. That decision does not change after they book you. It only gets worse.

I have seen this in the bar industry, in customer service, and now in my own business. Cheap people come with cheap problems.

Someone who tries to negotiate your price down, add extra tasks with no extra charge, and tell you how long a job should take is showing you exactly how that client relationship is going to look. Your work will never be enough. And because deep down they feel they never got a bargain, they will release that resentment on you in every way possible.

You will always regret taking on this type of client. You will lose time, energy, and money when you could have taken two or three serious loyal clients who respect your work, pay full price, and deserved that spot.

I know this goes against conventional sales knowledge. If the client says this, say that. Win them over. But nobody talks about what happens every single time after you โ€œwinโ€ that client:

โ€ข The back and forth
โ€ข more disrespect
โ€ข late night texts
โ€ข the complaints
โ€ข their - โ€œlast cleanerโ€, โ€œlast plumberโ€ nostalgia
โ€ข โ€œmy son has a college degree, and doesnโ€™t make as much money as youโ€ฆโ€
etc.

The race to the bottom was fed by exactly this thinking. That you have to win every client. I disagree.

This policy exists in my Service Agreement and I make sure they read it, before anything else.

Cleaning business owners have haters too. When I started posting, it was so quiet even the haters ignored me. They finally started to show up. Always bless them, never hate back. Be welcoming and be polite. You have an important brand and reputation to build.

The ones who come for your prices, your experience, your years in business, those are your opportunity. Teach through how you respond.

Never build resentment, if you have nothing to be defensive for. It's a great skill to build. Use it in your favor.

Go to my previous post, for the $2,250 loan that turned into 3 commercial cleaning contracts. ๐Ÿ™Œ

To build this business I took risks. Some paid off. Some didn't.

If you want to grow, you are going to have to pay.
Coaches, programs, trials.

There is no ceiling in this depending on how far you want to go. Take the risk. Sometimes you will lose.
You just have to keep going.

I could have done a lot with $12,000 ( this was another loan, program was $8,500, the rest was interest ๐Ÿ˜… ) But that loss told me something about myself. I didn't have the courage yet to do it on my own. So I put all my trust into a program that sounded amazing and professional.

They used Sales Navigator on LinkedIn, sending thousands of connections every week. They built my LinkedIn. I fired the first manager because he was a mess. The second one wasn't any better but he smiled more. I knew the first week I should stop the program.

The templates and the content were purely AI. Generic, cheap looking.

Nobody was responding.
So I got to work. I rewrote every template they gave me. They opposed it, but they had to go with it, because I continued to pay. I deleted all the content they posted and started over.

And when I finally sounded like a human, I got leads.

Authenticity is something you cannot buy. AI will never beat your brain and your creativity. We all use it, but donโ€™t lose your authenticity, use it to increase it and polish it.

The greatest lesson that cost me $12,000, is that this is the survival of the most authentic.

I didnโ€™t have money, so I took a loan. I turned $2,250 into 80% of my previous jobโ€™s gross salary, in 7 weeks.

But stay tuned, because I made a big mistake right after ๐Ÿ˜…

05/15/2026

The main reason I left the 9 to 5 world is the atmosphere. Toxic, draining, and depressing.

I remember dreaming about being exactly where l am now. My vision is bigger than this, but for now, Iโ€™m here.

I will not compromise my values. Anyone can compete on price, it takes zero skill. I can do that any moment if necessary. I donโ€™t even have to promote, I can just make a Craigslist post:

โ€œAffordable cleaning service, without sacrificing qualityโ€ฆ reliable, blah, blah, blahโ€ which is ๐Ÿ’ฏ of the time, bullsโ€ฆ

No client or cleaner will ever have the power to tell me how to run my business, how much to charge, or how to do my job.

I left that world for a reason. Quality and peace, over money.

Itโ€™s tiles, not tales ๐Ÿ™ƒ

My colleague criticized me I clean too much. What a compliment! So I told myself I don't have to deal with that, for $90 a day, and I can build a business on my own.
