🏇🌹 Hats, horses, and plenty of fun at The Grove at Canopy!

Our residents enjoyed a fantastic Kentucky Derby celebration filled with delicious mint juleps, tasty treats, and lots of excitement as everyone picked their favorite horses for the big race. While our top picks didn’t cross the finish line first this year, we still had a winning time together!

The good news? We’ve already agreed to meet again next year on the first Saturday in May for another unforgettable Kentucky Derby celebration!

🚔 City of Tallahassee Police Department Celebrates 200 years 🎉

The Grove at Canopy residents enjoyed a wonderful history of the Tallahassee Police Department. Speakers included TPD Historical Foundation Members Jeanine Gauding and Steve Gauding, Officers John Sabin and Tony Carlson, and Kaitlyn Grimes from TPD Community Relations.

Here is the timeline they shared with us highlighting small beginnings to today!
1826 - Elected City Marshalls, who also served as City Market Inspector, Health Inspector and Sanitary Inspector
1937 - 2 Harley motorcycles and one Ford Car were used in patrolling
1950 - 2-man detective squad hired
1955 - First time police cars were painted in large white sections with large lettering
1963 - Scooters began patrolling detail
1977 - 1st female patrol officer hired
1978 - Big Bend Narcotics Task Force created
1980 - TPD Tactical Apprehension & Control Team established
1982 - Current K-9 unit today was established
1991 - Pop Squad created (bicycle unit)
1994 - Citizen's Police Academy formed and active today
2018 - Body Worn Cameras began
2020 - Stolen Innocence Task Force formed
2023 - Tactical Flight Officers became an addition and partnership with LCSO
2023 - Established Capital Region Real time Center (partnership with LSCO, FSUPD)
2026 - Drones are now being implemented to provide safer and effective operational tactics
