“”Home Care Is The Best Care.”
There are a plethora of old adages like “ Home Sweet Home” and “ Home is where the Heart is,” There’s no place like home, ” that have withstood the sands of time because they resonate with us emotionally. In todayʼs world, people are living longer and studies show that most people would prefer to remain at home even when they are no longer able to get around on their own. That people thrive in familiar surroundings, being at home has a positive effect on their overall well being. In most cases it is less expensive than the alternative. Your Own Home Care’s stands behind their motto that The Best Care Is Home Care. Your Own Home Care originally came about due to the founder’s own experience when her mother reached an age where she needed help but did not want to leave home. The options were limited as well as discouraging for both Mother and Daughter. That is when Gina Deney decided there had to be a way to help others who had the same desires and concerns. In her words “I first became aware of the challenges of safely aging at home when my father died years ago. My mother was left in her home alone with no family members nearby. She had no medical issues requiring skilled care, but it quickly became evident that she couldnʼt take care of herself and the house without some kind of supplemental support. At that time home health care was in its infancy. We moved her to a facility in another state near my sister who couldnʼt take her into her home. None of us wanted to put her into a facility but there werenʼt any other options. She went into assisted living and was very unhappy. I donʼt think she will ever let me forget that. Today she is in a nursing home with supplemental care. The image of her sitting in her wheelchair in the day room uninterested in everything around her, of her tiny room with just a few of her actual possessions haunts me. Nothing of her life that was unique and memorable has been left intact. That is not the way I feel anyone should age. Through the lessons she learned navigating the system and subsequent research, Gina came up with a plan; and founded Your Own Home Care in 2004. When asked what was important about Your Own Home Care, Gina said “ Your Own Home LLC is a family owned non medical in home senior care agency that provides services for seniors, the disabled and people recovering from surgery or illness. We primarily perform whatever tasks are necessary for someone to be able to remain in their home safely. These tasks include but arenʼt limited to transportation, meal preparation, personal care such as bathing, dressing, assistance with household duties and help with ambulation. The easiest way to understand what we do is to imagine that as they begin to have trouble doing things for themselves, rather than you running over to help, we would we take care of them. Most seniors get placed in a facility at the point when they get hurt, become increasingly unsafe, or the family members become overwhelmed with trying to respond to their needs. If Your Own Home will care for the senior in their home throughout the aging process. Her primary goal was to provide affordable care and therefore peace of mind to clients and their families. This allows family members to continue living their lives with peace of mind that their lives. Your Own Home LLC is an independent Delaware company whereas most similar organizations out there are national franchisees. This enables us to customize our services to meet the individual needs of the customers we serve. Choosing with Care “Companion,” versus “Caregiver”? These are often used interchangeably. In my mind a companion is just that; they provide socialization for the senior such as shopping, planning and enjoying dinner. Just having someone in the home can markedly improve the quality of life for someone who doesnʼt get out anymore or have friends and family calling every day. It is a very long day when you have no social interaction. Knowing someone will be stopping over gives the senior that extra push and spak incentive to get up and dressed and ready for the day. Our job is to make sure they look forward to the time they are going to spend with their companion. Along with socialization a Caregiver provides “care” for the client, such as showering, dressing, and help with mobility issues. This requires a higher level of training and experience. These needs will gradually increase over time and our Caregivers recognize the warning signs more readily than a family member normally would. This helps the family adjust accordingly helping to avoid unforeseen incidents that may arise. Her secondary goal was to create a work environment that was family oriented. Drawing on her own experience, GIna has stuck to these principles and over the years has accomplished what she set out to do. As they say, “The proof is in the pudding.” The emphasis is on care, assessing each individuals needs and designing programs based on the specifics of the client’s physical limitations and personalities. The fact that the Caregivers all love what they do, feel as if they are treated like valued members of a family not just employees speaks volumes. What most people donʼt understand is that 24/7 live in home care is more cost effective than most alternatives but Your Own Home Care companions provide supplemental support at assisted or independent living facilities.
