In Loving Memory of Patsy "Pat" L. Wilkinson

Patsy “Pat” Wilkinson (nee Reagan), 88, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in her home, where she wanted to be. Born to the late Cecil and Mary Reagan in Blount County, TN, she was a real Tennessee Girl and proud graduate of the St. Mary's Hospital and Nursing School's Registered Nursing program in Knoxville, TN. She “retired” from nursing to raise her children but was quick to volunteer for blood drives and any screening programs in the schools as well as volunteering in her church to bring comfort to those unable to attend services.

Preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brother Mike and great-granddaughter Brooklyn, she is survived by her children Brett and Lori, sister Wanda, brother Terry, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own.

After the kids were “grown and gone” Pat traveled extensively with her husband until his passing, then enjoyed traveling with her sister Wanda and special cousin Bev, and brother-in-law Tyree and his wife Bonnie.

Home and family were important to her, and she always hosted holiday get-togethers looking forward to spending time with everyone, sharing stories of her life, times and journeys. She kept track of her nursing school classmates and lifelong friends until, as she would tell you, they were just about all gone. We would like to extend a special thanks to Michelle Proctor, her live-in care giver and companion for the past few years, who made it possible for mom to be at home. And finally, we want to thank everyone who made mom's final months safe and comfortable.

She will be missed by everyone who knew/loved her. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public services.

In Loving Memory of Donald Earl Scherer

Donald Earl Scherer, aged 90 years and 144 days, passed away peacefully on September the first with family by his side.

Dad was preceded in death by his father, Claude; his mother, Grace; an infant brother, Dennis; his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret; and his grandson, Cory.

He is survived by his sons, Steven (Diana) and Brian (Shelby); sister, Karen (Bill) Spurrier; brother, Bruce (Susan); seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, plus many loving relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Dad was born on April 10, 1935. He spoke fondly and often of his younger years, being raised just off Tallmadge Circle. He spent those years hunting, fishing, trapping, right in the Tallmadge area. As he grew older, he set pins by hand at the local bowling alley. He graduated from Tallmadge High School and after a brief stint working at the Ravenna Arsenal, he began what would become 31 years working at the Ford plant in Walton Hills.

He married our Mom, the love of his life, in 1956 and settled in north Akron. Dad was fortunate to retire at the age of 51, and he and Mom spent many great years together, inseparable, wintering in Florida and summering in Akron. You wouldn’t see one without the other close by.

Mom and Dad loved flea markets and yard sales, as evidenced by a visit to Dad’s basement. In his later years, Dad enjoyed Fords, planting too many tomato plants and too much kale, giving away the fruits of his garden, and making sure all the flowers around the house and yard were in tip top shape.

Visitation will be 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (On the Historic Tallmadge Circle).

Funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 308, Zoarville, OH 44656.

In Loving Memory of Christine ((Hornung)) Herschberger

Christine Herschberger, age 102, died Friday, August 22, 2025. She was predeceased by Stefan, her husband of 67 years in 2018, and by her granddaughter Elisabeth Herschberger Brown (Marcus) in 2019.

She is survived by son, Peter Herschberger (Mary) and their children, Michael Herschberger and Elena Herschberger; daughter, Mary Christine Shane (David) and their children, Jackson Shane and Chloe Shane; daughter, Eleonore Herschberger, and daughter, Hedy Simmons; great-grandchildren, Flora June, Camille and Elijah Brown.

Christine was born in 1923 in Jabuka, Yugoslavia, one of many small German enclaves in the heart of the Balkan territory. In the aftermath of WWII she and her family were forced to flee this region, which for generations had been their homeland. They survived despite much hardship. She and Stefan married in 1951 and emigrated to Akron, Ohio in 1956, green cards in hand. Previous citizenship: DP. They remedied this in 1963 by becoming proud American citizens.

Christine and her beloved Stefan raised four children in whom they instilled a love of their German heritage as well as a love of learning in general. All four children are college graduates, something which both Christine and Stefan worked hard to bring about, and something of which they were very proud.

Christine had a lovely singing voice, and a harmonica which she could play with great skill and little prompting. She could dance as only one with a boundless capacity for joy could do.

For many years she and her family were members of Akron’s (now Brimfield) German American Club. This provided an outlet for Christine’s many other talents. She was, for a number of years, one of the adult youth leaders who worked with the many young members at their singing and dancing practices. Sewing countless dirndls for the girls and vests for the boys was also part of her long and productive life.

After a move to Tallmadge in 1972, she and Stefan enjoyed their large garden which attracted birds and wildlife, their favorite guests. Now in her retirement, she would also have time to pursue her other lifelong love of writing poetry and memoirs of her early life. Due to failing health, Christine and Stefan had to leave their beloved home in Tallmadge and moved to Concord, CA.

Christine knew how to make the best of every situation and never met a stranger. She entertained her friends at the Concord Royale nursing home with her little harmonica when she could no longer sing. Her party in heaven will be lively one, no doubt. We miss you, Mammi. You were the best.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 4, from 4pm until 7pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Av., Tallmadge, OH.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10am Friday, September 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 73 North Av., Tallmadge, OH with Rev. Michael Williamson officiating.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery on Waterloo Rd. in Akron.

In Loving Memory of Joseph Anthony TricasoJoseph A. Tricaso passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 90....

In Loving Memory of Joseph Anthony Tricaso

Joseph A. Tricaso passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 90. He lived a life as full as the family dinner table he loved to sit at—surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren, telling stories of the “good old days” and raising a glass of red wine.

Born on July 2, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, to Michael and Catherine Tricaso, Joe’s first few years of life coincided with the second half of the Great Depression, which shaped his lifelong dislike of waste and his meticulous way of keeping things in order. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 before beginning a 42-year career with Tasty Pure Foods, where he serviced grocery stores and restaurants throughout the Akron area. Joe loved his work, often saying, “If you love your job, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

In 1959, Joe married his beloved wife, Doris, and together they shared 66 years of marriage until her passing in March 2025. For 52 of those years, they lived in Tallmadge, where they were active parishioners of Our Lady of Victory Church, raised their four children, and their home became the center of countless family dinners, holiday gatherings, and celebrations. Together, Joe and Doris built a close-knit Italian family rooted in love, loyalty, and tradition.

Joe was deeply devoted to his family, never missing a football game, graduation, or birthday. He kept his basement cellar stocked like a grocery store—shelves neatly-lined and perfectly-faced with household staples and his children’s and grandchildren’s favorite snacks to grab whenever they visited.

He enjoyed going to poker nights hosted by his son and grandsons, taking day-trips to gamble at Mountaineer with his wife and grown kids, and playing in his Men’s Poker League every Monday morning. Earlier in life, he was a proud member of the “Tallmadge Racketeers,” a group of retired friends who spent hours at the rec each week doing more socializing than they did exercising. Joe was also a member of Knights of Columbus and active participant of the MSC Conversanese Italian Club for many years.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents, Michael and Catherine Tricaso; brother, Paul Tricaso; sister, Angela Zimmerman; and his compare, Joseph Cacioppo.

He is survived by his children: Kathy (Dave) Cundiff, Mary (Richard) Wright, Joseph (Kathy) Tricaso, and Lisa (Dennis Jarmatcki) Robinette; 10 grandchildren who proudly knew and loved him as "Poppie": Billy (Lindsey) Cundiff, Danny (Jamila) Cundiff, Jonny (Jessica) Cundiff, Michael Tricaso, Carina Tricaso (Blake Bogdanovich), Joey (Zion) Tricaso, Vinnie Tricaso, Katie (Troy) Shaffer, Landon Robinette, and Nicholas Robinette; and was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brother, Mike Tricaso; brother-in-law, Sam Ferrise; sister-in-law, Madeline Didado; comare, Isabel Cacioppo; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who felt like family.

The Tricaso family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Greenview Senior Living Community for the care and compassion they showed Joe and Doris in their final years. Joe will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and devotion to his family, whose lives are forever shaped by the love and traditions he and Doris built together.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 25, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Church, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown, with Rev. David Durkee officiating.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

About Us

A letter from Jim Donovan, owner of Donovan Funeral Home.

Although my family and I have been residents of Tallmadge most of our lives, and have many friends and deep ties to our community, I would like to introduce myself and our funeral home to those of you whom I have not yet had the opportunity to meet. In the spring of 2003, I purchased the funeral home on Tallmadge Circle and we have since then brought three different generations of funeral professionals within our family to our business: my father-in-law, my son, and myself. My father’s parents, Jim and Dorothy Donovan of Elm Avenue, had five children here in Tallmadge, and my mother’s parents, Homer and Evelyn Heiser, had ten children here in Tallmadge, and now my wife, the former Julie Bagnoli, and I have three children of our own whom were born and raised here: James, Courtney and Kendall. Julie’s parents, Larry and Brenda Bagnoli, have been Tallmadge residents for a long time and raised their two daughters here.

It was my father-in-law, Larry Bagnoli, who showed me how much I could help people through the funeral profession. I have done my best to follow in his footsteps as a funeral director. We share the same beliefs and philosophies about helping people in their time of need. And now that my son, James, has graduated college and begun working full-time, he too is working hard to ensure only the best and most compassionate care for all our families that come to us in their time of need.
