Meskwaki Behavioral Health provides a range of services for individuals of all ages including play therapy, EMDR therapy, medication management, couples and family therapy and substance use counseling. Many children occasionally experience fears and worries or display disruptive behaviors. If symptoms are severe, persistent or interfere with school, home, or play activities, behavioral health services may be beneficial.
For individuals under 18, mental health services require parental or guardian consent, and a parent or guardian must accompany the child to their first appointment. Proof of guardianship will be necessary. At the end of this initial appointment, please discuss the need for parental presence at future visits. If a parent does not need to attend, transportation assistance is available, including to and from school.
Substance use counseling for individuals as young as age 12 does not require parental consent to receive evaluations or treatment. The percentage of people aged 12 or older in 2023 who needed substance use treatment in the past year was higher among American Indian or Alaska Native (30.6 percent) or Multiracial people (26.2 percent) compared with White (19.9 percent), Black (19.7 percent), Hispanic (17.5 percent), or Asian people (10.5 percent) (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2024
Minors will be provided confidential communication with their behavioral health provider and information will not be shared unless necessary such as instances of potential harm to the child.
