While addiction falls under the umbrella of mental illness, unlike some other diagnoses, it requires the addition of a spiritual practice to one's daily life. Addicts and alcoholics need to drastically shift their outlook and attitude by developing a spiritual connection that combats the separateness, loneliness, and victimhood inherent in any addict's mindset.

The Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center was founded and built by Ben Brafman, widely recognized mental health expert and Jaime Blaustein, a former Wall Street investment banker who was suffering from substance abuse and declared ""hopeless"" by several doctors and mental health professionals.

During Jaime's rehab journey, he met Ben, and after years of struggle and being dismissed from Ben's program, Jaime was given a second chance at life. He resurrected his career, repaired previously neglected relationships, and became a sponsor to dozens in recovery. Ben had been following Jaime’s progress and got a gut feeling that the two of them could develop something special.

In 2021, the Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center was born in Florida with the hopes that Jaime and Ben could give others the same second chance at life that Jaime got. In 2025, they opened The Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center – Georgia, a residential mental health program that brings the same clinical philosophy to a 24/7 inpatient setting.
