Tamarac CERT Tamarac CERT - Get Involved!

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

CERT members!

The peak of hurricane season 2025, is here. I'm asking all members, both active and those no longer active, to take some time to review your preparedness plans and emergency supplies. Be ready for a storm's arrival, because the big question is not if but when.

Key Reminders for Storm Season

Communication: We'll use WhatsApp to communicate when we are monitoring a storm or activated.

Teamwork: Remember, we always act as a team, never solo. We prioritize safety to ensure we don't become victims ourselves.

Family First: The most important thing is to take care of our families first.

Stay safe and stay prepared, Tamarac CERT.

Don't Miss out CERT Members

As we gear up for another hurricane season, staying informed is one of the most important things we can do as trained volunteer responders.

We’re pleased to invite you to a special briefing with a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, who will provide a detailed recap of the 2024 hurricane season and share what we can expect for the 2025 season.

This is a great opportunity to gain insight into storm trends, preparedness tips, and potential challenges for this year. The information shared will be especially valuable for CERT members as we prepare to support our communities in times of need.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS SERIES – POST 11

🧯 Be the Help Before Help Arrives: Why Resident Involvement Matters

You don’t need a badge to make an impact.

You just need to be ready, connected and involved.

During disasters, it’s not if your community will need help — it’s who will step up. And that who can be you. 💪🏽

Here’s how joining programs like CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) can turn everyday residents into hometown heroes.
________________________________________
🧠 Why Resident Involvement Matters:

✅ Faster neighborhood response – Trained neighbors save lives before professional help can arrive
✅ Informed residents reduce panic – Prepared people make safer decisions under pressure
✅ You become a force multiplier – You’re not a bystander; you’re part of the response
✅ You help with recovery too – Damage assessments, wellness checks and support for vulnerable residents
✅ You build resilience – For yourself. For your family. For your street.

🛠️ What is CERT?

CERT = Community Emergency Response Teams

It’s a FEMA-sponsored training program that teaches everyday residents how to:

• Perform basic first aid & triage
• Conduct light search & rescue
• Safely use fire suppression tools
• Organize community teams during disasters
• Communicate with emergency services

You don’t need to be a superhero.
Just someone willing to learn, lead and show up. 🦸‍♀️

SMOKE ALERT:

Residents should be aware that we're experiencing a blanket of smoke throughout the City due to prescribed agricultural burns in the Everglades. Tamarac Fire Rescue is aware of the situation. Today's gusty winds have brought smoke in from the west, and it is thick in the area. We will continue to monitor the situation and advise if we receive any updated information.

Persons with respiratory issues should try to remain indoors while the smoke condition exists.
