February 28, 2026 – Rare Disease Day
On the final day of February, the global community observes Rare Disease Day — a moment dedicated not only to awareness, but to recognition, advocacy, and responsibility.
In the United States, a rare disease is defined as a condition affecting fewer than 200,000 individuals. While each diagnosis may be uncommon in isolation, collectively rare diseases impact more than 300 million people worldwide — a number that reminds us rarity is, in fact, not rare.
The zebra has become the symbol of this day. In medical training, clinicians are often taught to “think horses, not zebras,” meaning common conditions are statistically more likely. Rare Disease Day challenges us to remember that sometimes it is a zebra — and behind every rare diagnosis stands a person who deserves timely identification, evidence-based care, and equitable access to specialized treatment.
At JANZ Medical Supply, we recognize the complexity of rare conditions and the resilience of the communities affected by them. We stand alongside patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals who navigate diagnostic uncertainty and treatment challenges with strength and perseverance.
Advancing care for rare diseases requires collaboration, innovation, and sustained commitment — and we remain dedicated to supporting that mission.
